Pros

Knowledgeable and talented individuals who carry the company. Cowan also shows ongoing support to the community, notably with their recent $4 million donation to Conestoga College.

Cons

Company is collapsing because they're no longer able to retain their best talent because of appalling management and politics. They apply for awards such as "Most Admired Corporate Culture" but in reality the work environment is growing increasingly toxic, which is reflected directly upon their high turnover rates in the past 12 months. They strive for the perception of a progressive and innovative company, however internally they're struggling to adapt to change. They're losing their most important accounts and continue to be behind on revenue and growth objectives, and this has dampened the overall company morale. It's ironic that they work with companies to develop benefits plans that "attract and retain talent", yet the reality is Cowan offers their own employees a mediocre, and expensive benefits package.

Pros

Good leadership program Good company culture for employees Growing business Okay to join as employee or manager but not as an executive.

Cons

Too much intervention from the owners and CEO. When you join, you will be told you can work independently and strategize the business but they will keep directing decisions without understanding the ground realities of work challenges and talent management. Executives are disrespected at meetings 4 executives have left/fired in last 3 months. Obviously something is wrong.

Pros

None what so ever !

Cons

Nepotism : Every employee is related to one another . It feels you are working in a mom and pop shop as opposed to an actual professional organization. You have mother son daughter niece aunt working in the same team , who undermine people who are not part of their family. Poor pay : They are poor paymasters . The wage is the lowest in the industry. High turnover : Talented and ambitious people dont last here because of poor pay and impotent management. Office Politics : People seek to undermine talented employees . Pathethic Management : the management deliberately understaffs each department. They will post job openings but will not hire for long periods. The running joke is cowan is called the most managed company as opposed to the best managed company title .the management flaunts this meaningless acolade at every oppurtunity. Shady accounting practices. : they take advantages of being a conglomerate and to not pay taxes. . they need to be audited.. Pathethic claims department : their claims team dont process claims but simply push papers and follow up with insurers and adjusters. Some are truly incompitent.
