There are a few long-term employees that are 'the chosen'. They can do no wrong. The company is very heavy on the paperwork and stastics - project statistic, employment statistics - and very light on the actual construction knowledge and teaching. The lower-tiered field staff (APMs and Project Engineers) are actually running the jobs sometimes because the PMs and SPMs are spread so thin over many projects. In the end, its all about moving the peice of paper into someone elses' pile whether it be an Architect, Engineer, Subcontractor or Field workers. The most discouraging point is the big higher for Summer Slammers, only to lay a bunch of people off when the projects are coming to an end. (gossip in the office actually said that happens every year)

Employees are disposable, used, and thrown out. Extensive travel, hours, and zero family life is the culture at Consigli. PM's spend more time explaining and justifying what they are doing than actually building buildings. It is a culture based around "cost meetings" with the stake holders of the company in which they work to strike fear into their employees. You only as good as your last project and their is always a scape goat for a unsuccessful project.
