Pros

Many employees (not many on the Executive level) have innovative minds and great vision for client centered services. Compass also offers great professional development and has a very strong national network.

Cons

Like many nonprofits, the mission always means well but their practice of inclusivity, equity, etc. does not always align with the policies and treatment of their BIPOC coaching staff.  As a person of color, the gaslighting by members in management and the messiness of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity (DEI) training gone completely wrong, have left me with unresolved trauma that I am still trying to unpack even after I left the position.  Beyond that, it was very clique-y and unless you drank all of the Koolaid all of the time, there was very little space for upward mobility in your career.  Oftentimes you felt more like a few clicked check boxes, rather than an actual colleague that's respected.

Great Mission, Toxic Culture

Pros

Impactful work with clients, mission is incredible and decent salary & benefits for a non profit.

Cons

The work place is extremely political. If you're not on "the list" you will never be considered for a promotion. DEI work has been disingenuous and traumatizing to BIPOC staff. Many have left because their experiences have been devalued, particularly financial coaches. Feedback is asked for but if you speak truthfully and provide constructive criticism, your growth opportunities will be destroyed. Executive team is insular, thin skinned and plays favorites. Sherry Riva leads but does not inspire.
