Forward Thinking Organization and Positive Work Atmosphere
Pros
i ) Strong relationship between management and employees: - Things are very transparent here. From what I've personally seen, management will go to bat for you so that you can perform to the best of your abilities. - For projects and directions, managers are always open to suggestions regarding technologies and workflows. If you can make a case for your idea, it's almost always given a lot of consideration, if not making its way into projects. - If you have a grievance or concern, it's as simple as walking over to where your manager sits and requesting a meeting and these usually happen within the day. ii ) Cross-pollination of ideas between teams: - Everyone is very approachable. Some of my most informative discussions have been from informal chats with members of other teams. - Everyone is very willing to share knowledge. I've met with technical leads and platform architects just to learn about a certain domain from them and every time has been a pleasant experience. They were always willing to book a time slot for this even when their schedules were quite full. iii ) Flexible work hours: - The expectation is for you to attend the meetings and get the work done, not for you to be there from a fixed start time to a fixed end time. - Working from home is always an option, as long as your presence isn't required in the office (for example, for meetings, or if the sprint is particularly communication-heavy). iv ) Career development is encouraged: - Obtaining certifications and such are encouraged and costs are reimbursed. - Textbooks and other reference materials are reimbursed as well. v ) Last but not least, these guys care about employee experience: - We recently hired an employee experience person who's making lots happen, such as getting permission for after-work jam sessions for the musicians here. Lots more to come from what I hear!
Cons
i ) New open concept office can be distracting. ii ) Some of the spaces in the office are unnecessary and are never used. They should be dealt away with (for example, the place with the four red sofas). iii ) There are only two work pods. In my opinion they are the best places to stay focused and get work done, but they're currently used primarily as temporary spaces for people without desks.
