Pros

Decent pay, decent benefits, if you get on a good team, it can be really fun to be around coworkers. The training is amazing. I walked in the door knowing nothing about insurance and I left with a PA life license which they paid for, free education on insurance, and an awesome addition to my resume. Good for a while to help you get the licensure and experience you need to find a permanent career elsewhere.

Cons

They say it's not cold calling, but let's be honest... The majority of the customers are NOT expecting to be called. Literally you will be making calls all day and all night and that's all they really care about. They are obsessed with calling customers. They even have this evil device called "the dialer" where it is automatic back to back calling...no breaks to even breathe between calls. Quality Assistance needs quality assistance. You can cover all bases and they will grade you based on how they would have said it. "I know you covered this, but I would have put it like this, so I'm gonna mark you down." Atmosphere is "high schoolish". Keep your business to yourself or everyone will know about it. The job really gets to you after a while. You're a robot and you can say the script in your sleep after a few weeks.

Pros

It's nice to receive a paycheck so that bills can be paid. Some of the folks who work here are really special and hard working people.

Cons

The supervisor "review" from 7/21/16 looks very suspect. I would not be surprised if they were asked to post that comment with five stars just to raise Colonial Penn's rating on Glassdoor. There was nothing of substance in their review and they neglected to leave a comment which contained the truth.

Pros

convenient downtown location. some management are actually concerned about the employees. incentive packages are pretty ok. Salary pretty good.

Cons

Alot of the employees are simply there because of the salary. There are not many people that enjoy the job or the environment. Most supervisors lack intelligence, professionalism and management skills. I was an employee of colonial penn dating back to the 90's, at that time Colonial Penn was an awesome company to work for. Through the years with changes in HR and the company as a whole it has steadily gone down hill. The caliber and professionalism of employees have declined along with choices made for supervisory positions have been a disgrace. The call center portion of the company is very high schoolish and is full of gossip, relationships and buffoonery . This behavior is not only within the representatives but also management. Goals that are required are outlandish! I personally know people that lost there job simply because they have stated their opinions or their supervisor has a personal vendetta with them. HR rep has close personal relationships with supervisors and allow them to make these decisions. They constantly fire employees because of their lack of achieving goals but the real problem is the management staff. If they had supervisors that actually had management skills they would definitely have a better group of employees! Do not apply for customer service position. It is really a sales position. Customer service is not as important as the sale that they want you to make at the end of the call. customer service representatives are the heart of that company and they do not get the recognition they deserve and are extremely overworked. CSR are always given more descriptions to their job but still want them to achieve sales goals RIDICULOUS!
