Don't Waste Your Time Even Applying With This Company

Pros

The owner of the company treats the community better than his own employees. Good store discount. But other than that, there really are no pros for working at this company.

Cons

Where to begin... They micromanage. They put people in supervisory roles who can't lead a bee to pollen. The best way to move up in the company is to have sexual relations with any executive (I could name names, but I'm not going to). The vast majority of the employees live well below the poverty line. They have no professional moral. All store personnel work part time so the owner doesn't have to give them any benefits. If you like to come in late, talk a lot, neglect your work, start drama, and play Doodle Jump on your smart phone, then this is the job for you.

Great Co-Workers Terrible Upper Management

Pros

Co-workers in the corporate office are great, kind, friendly, caring people. The employee discount is good Middle management is also quite nice

Cons

All employees are overworked and underpaid. This company has 4 people in Marketing, 4 people in IT and 3 in HR. To say these departments are understaffed is an understatement, even the larger departments (merchandising, warehouse, and accounting) are understaffed. expect large workloads and if you get a salaried position expect to be working 60-80 hours a week Aside from workload the pay and benefits are almost non-existent. Dental, Health, and vision all have some form of coverage but it doesn't amount to much. There is no PTO only 5 sick days a year and 5 vacation days a year. Upper management (particularly in Merchandising) is TOXIC. If you work closely with upper management expect to receive conflicting orders on what you need to do and chronic mismanagement of timeframes.

Pros

I was forced into early retirement do to non-military PTSD brought on by 22 years as a maintenance tech for a fast food restaurant chain that never understood that I needed support to do my job. After receiving Social Security Disability and sitting for over a year, I needed to feel useful again and e-mailed Peggy at Coastal when they're opening a store in The Dalles Oregon was still a rumor. She was incredibly nice and encouraged me to apply. During my interview, Devon, Tiffany, and Todd where very kind and but this 60-year-old man at ease, and it was easy for me to explain my disability with the possibility of confusion under stress, and that I wanted to challenge the doctors grim prognosis of not being able to work again. I have still have some difficulties after 1 1/2 years, but they are very patient and flexible with my work abilities, and part-time-hour schedule. I've never dreaded going to work. It's nice to feel needed and appreciated in the closing years of my life by an employer.

Cons

Our store was a former Shop N' Kart grocery, and with all the coolers was not designed for a dry-goods department store. It took a year, but now we are cool and comfy just as winter is coming.... with 4 extra HVAC s Thanks Buzz!
