Deceitfully perfect

Pros

Remote work, decent benefits, some coworkers are really nice and respectful

Cons

Upper stakeholders favoritism & office politics. It’s been happening on the low for years. The company isn’t doing well so there are layoffs and people are being prioritized by personal connections. There is also an actual problem with the products they are not sustainable for growth, way too expensive to be profitable

Pros

Good location, modern workspace, free (healthy) snacks and coffee. Pretty good benefits.

Cons

For a small company, it was way too political. Often this got in the way of being able to do my job effectively. Marketing essentially runs the company, and that shows. The marketing team is about half of the company, and other departments suffer by not getting adequate staffing. There is no rhyme or reason to promotions, so you end up with unqualified people in executive roles, and those people make decisions that just don't make sense. When things fall apart, they point to someone beneath them as the scapegoat. Decisions are made by leadership on impulse and no one questions it, which means priorities shift often and you can't get any momentum on any projects. The company also likes to claim how diverse they are, but in reality it's just a bunch of white people.

Fundamental flaws

Pros

Some people are genuinely kind and mean well.

Cons

Lots of office politics. Don't expect a promotion or raise unless you're besties with your manager. A lot of quality people have left over the years, so the leadership is not what it used to be. The "product" is fundamentally flawed (keeps getting more expensive) and arguably snake oil (just read the Daily Beast article from a few years back) so the people that stick around are the ones that blindly believe they're saving the world despite doing nothing to actually curb emissions. The cognitive dissonance is actually pretty impressive.
