Pros

Pay is great and there is a lot of opportunity to move around. There is opportunity for upward mobility but it gets few and far between the higher you go. The benefits and cost of health care is awesome! Risk management department are the absolute best!!

Cons

Very political and God help you if you make any enemies. They will recruit the entire department to hate you as well. A lot of followers and not enough leaders.

Pros

Very much a "what you make of it" type employer. If you work hard, there are plenty of opportunities. If you don't do much, you probably won't get far. The benefits are very good though over the years have degraded. And will probably continue to get worse.

Cons

Pay is on the lower end of the spectrum for individuals with degrees. You may hear that government employees make just as much money as those in the private sector plus they have wonderful benefits. I left the City for a position where I made a lot more money. The insurance was a little more pricey but the difference in pay more than made up for it.

Pros

First off, the City of Cincinnati offers a lot for someone wanting to grow a career. Start wherever you can get in and move your way to an Enterprise Agency (Sewers, Water) - thank me later. If you work hard and smart, doors will open. Pay is fair but not great. Benefits are above average but slowly declining. It's not hard to really shine in the City of Cincinnati if you have some initiative. Lots of great people and exciting projects to work on. If you are smart you can make it a great place to work.

Cons

This is a local government and does not operate like a business. Effectiveness is not the primary goal here. Lots of seemingly arbitrary goals and strategies. Politics is naturally thick and can be frustrating if you have initiative. Management principles are mostly lacking but it also varies somewhat where you land in the city structure.
