Pros

I've so far worked for Charming Charlie for 5 years and it is the best job I have ever had. I certainly believe in people work for people and that as leaders, you set the tone in your store. The quality is much better than from when I first started, I love my team including DM, peers, Regional, and our executives. They are some of the hardworking people I know. My customers are great and it NEVER gets old bonding with a customer, especially when it's their first time.

Cons

A lot of these complaints are internal such as my GSM did this, did that or DM did this or that. I wish they could have experienced it from my end. Yes, they are a bit disorganized. But who isn't? It's business and decisions sometimes are made in the moment. Not only that, the primary leaders should look at the situation different and use their problem solving skills to implement a quick solution. I guarantee you put someone in the store who is passionate, inspiring, structured, and positive, there will be a difference in numbers. Yes, we let go 1 or 2 positions in most low volume stores. Our company does care because they didn't have to offer you a position or a severance package. Some companies didn't even offer that. And it's business. A lot of companies have realigned in the past few years.

Pros

The accessories are budget friendly and you get an employee discount. The employee discount is the only perk at this job.

Cons

Corporate environment is the worst that I have experienced in my 10 years of work experience. Leadership is non existing. C- level is shady and dishonest and make all the wrong decision for the business. Managers, Directors, VPs dont have a true understanding of the areas they are in charge of therefore workloads are very heavy and unrealistic with a very low pay. As someone with experience seeing things be done wrong at the expense of many hours of work by all the associates was very frustrating. The company changes direction, changes leaders without any understanding of the effects it has on all areas of the business. Again no real leadership no integrity the company breaks work labor laws and the human resources department have very little understanding of what they are doing. You will be demoralized and be pushed to your breaking point causing serious stress health issues and left wanting a career change.

Pros

Fun products. Used to be very organized and training was great and effective. They gave separate hours to push product to the floor when the store wasn't open which gave you time to really focus on the customer. There are some great customers and it's awesome seeing ones who come in for the first time and their excitement. Beneficial rewards program that even employees can use.

Cons

Overspending on opening too many stores at once had hit the company hard making the worst hit on store level. Work load is completely unrealistic with the selling model. No paid holidays. No matching 401k. Work/life balance is terrible. They improved it after complaints, but only for DMs and corporate, leaving stores fending for themselves on busy weekends and after 6pm. It used to be an awesome company but as they lost money, they took cuts in the wrong places and shifted their target customer in the wrong direction. Straying away from the color coded store that customers love. Now adding secondary colors into shops, making customers have to search in 3 places for a brown bag or a gold earring. Keeping customers happy is key, but the just say yes policy is making the company lose money. The return policy is way to lenient and we have several customers a day returning used products but we have to return them. Even if they're years old. Coupons given to customers that beat out employee discounts but are unable to be used by employees. We wear the items to sell them, we should have more of a discount than the customer.
