Pros

Believes in education; lots of smart people working very hard; good benefits. Out in the field the materials they create do good and help teachers and students.

Cons

The values the company says that it holds do not trickle down to the way people are treated day to day. Management does not understand how to apply the principles of collaboration in the workplace. Management are all friends who party together, its a closed loop. managers do not seem to listen to or care about what anyone thinks, they just impose ridiculous rules. This results in a toxic environment where dissatisfaction goes underground.

CEO Response: Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. I appreciate your commitment to our organizational mission and curriculum. We do make a difference for students and teachers. The more our curricula are adopted by schools and districts, the more lives we impact. The organization is making changes to more effectively disseminate our work. As we make changes, it is inevitable that challenges will come up that will require adjustments in processes and staffing. It is a priority of mine in this context to maintain a culture of trust, collaboration, and mutual respect throughout the organization. We are committed to investing in you and all of the employees at Collaborative Classroom and genuinely wish to build an environment where all are inspired by their work and feel safe to discuss disagreements and criticism so that we can find solutions to challenges. In this spirit, I encourage you to discuss your concerns with your manager or any member of the leadership team. Ideally, if you are comfortable, I would like us to have a problem-solving conversation. By speaking directly with us, you will be helping the organization to confront the issues you raise in your review.

Pros

Good product: When I started working for the Collaborative Classroom I was excited as the products boast inclusion, and social-emotional learning. It seemed like a very warm organization committed to diversifying their client base to promote an equitable start in elementary school.

Cons

Favoritism, not considering other perspectives and experiences that coudl move the organization forward: Initially it appeared that all employees were interested in 'living' this goal, but in actuality, the employees that support this are the employees closest to the production of the product. The biggest disappointment is the politics of the executive team and managers. Favoritism is strongly evident, and people get promoted based on 'friendly’ relationships. There are members of the executive team that have zero reports, and continue to 'float' along. Much of the executives/chiefs continue to promote within their 'friendship bubble' and have no actual 'experience' to hold their current roles.

Thank you to those who took the time to write a review of Collaborative Classroom and to those who follow our organization. We are deeply concerned about the comments in recent posts, especially because our organization is genuinely committed to creating a culture where diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are at the center of all that we do for our staff. We are also concerned about the comments from current staff, particularly because our recent Employee Survey showed overwhelming support for our equity journey and our strategic approach to our DEI work. The well-being of our staff is of the utmost importance and concern. We have invested substantial resources in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, including: 1) Creating a strong culture of feedback and responsive management action through our annual Employee Satisfaction Survey. The results from our annual Employee Satisfaction Surveys are used to develop a Management Action Plan (MAP) addressing employees' top concerns and to make improvements year over year. The entire staff has input into the steps we take to address concerns. 2) Implementing internal initiatives to build staff competencies and awareness around DEI topics, such as unconscious bias, power and privilege, micro-aggressions, and issues of marginalization. 3) Establishing an Equity Roadmap to document and provide accountability for management practices, hiring, retention, and career development to promote equity throughout the organization. We are working with an experienced DEI professional to ensure we are operationalizing all aspects of our Equity Roadmap with the goal of continuing to build a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture where all employees feel like they belong and flourish. We intend to grow and develop as an organization as we refine our processes to increase equity and inclusivity. We welcome conversations with current employees to better understand how we might create an environment where employees truly feel a sense of belonging and connectedness.
