At best idealistic. At worst very harmful.

Pros

The foundational idea and intent behind Catchafire to deliver pro-bono support at scale and without over burdening nonprofits was a good one. At a micro by-organization level, the platform can deliver meaningful impact to nonprofits on the platform.

Cons

Capricious decision making leads to a revolving door of talent who are either burnt out or pushed out. Some highly questionable practices around performance management and exiting people. In group / out group culture at the top creates a culture of favoritism and fear of speaking up even for the betterment of the product or services. Challenges in revenue generation are always considered a 'failure to sell' with no reflection on the feedback of users and partners which suggests otherwise The experience of Black, Brown and other marginalized folk at the company has been consistently poor and at times harmful. The dismissive comments here in the positive reviews about 'disgruntled' ex employees are tough to read and demonstrate the culture of denial, gaslighting and lack of introspection of a privileged few. However you sleep at night I guess, but the poor treatment of many talented and good people over the years is an open secret that leadership spend a lot of energy papering over for candidates and new starters. Notice the pattern of stellar reviews appearing here soon after negative ones.

Pros

There are no pros for this company. It used to be the (non executive level) employees but people are quitting, getting fired, or laid off in droves.

Cons

Incompetent leadership by a handful of people who were consistently failed forward is the company's biggest problem. Instead of fixing that issue, the company's leadership has targeted employees that speak up about it and passive aggressively encouraged employees to post positive reviews and reflections on this site or their personal social media pages. Fortunately the truth about this company will remain available everywhere, regardless of how they tried to silence the criticism. Most of the perks that they use to reel in new employees are a farce and if you decide to interview there, you should try to connect with a former employee beforehand to ask about it. Ask about the company's DE&I efforts, how the company's doing financially, how long that employee stayed, and why they left. In the end, you'll likely realize that the leadership team and employees that are their "BFFs" are the only people there who are professionally (and financially) advancing and love the culture. Everyone else is either brand new or keeping their head down while trying to escape the fire.

Pros

Catchafire finds good employees by offering a nice starting salary (NYC range) and promises a feel good place to work given its mission. There are smart and super qualified workers at Catchafire.

Cons

Toxic CEO and VPs follow suit. Bullying, berating, swearing, and belittling are par for the course at this organization. If you complain, prepare for retaliation against you. HR is not empowered to do anything and other VPs mask the issues, especially the COO and Board. They're so focused on profitability, they're willing to let a maniacal CEO run the company into the ground. Rachael is not the CEO. It's Matt, who has a large ego and backwards values.
