Pros

Beautiful office space which is a joy to work in. Generally positive, kind and well-intentioned colleagues. Flexible work arrangements. Anxious, conflict-averse, and disengaged leadership - low pressure. Absentee partners - limited supervision. Firm has a good reputation- resume builder

Cons

Below average pay. Paltry raises. Pathetic bonuses. 401k match not guaranteed and often not vested - fun end of year surprise. Overly frequent performance reviews with no financial incentive. Constant talk about diversity and social justice and well-being and sustainability with insufficient attention given to architecture and business fundamentals.

Pros

-great client base with repeat client relationships -nice flow of new incoming work even during pandemic -beautiful office space with spectacular views -strong internal visualization team allowing projects to have an identity earlier on in the process -clean sensible graphics and designs -revit-based office -well-run from admin staff standpoint

Cons

-pay is below average and bonuses are very poor; year to year increases are minimal -too hierarchical with inconsistent promotion program -favoritism towards select individuals in office -lack of transparency and communication by senior leadership to the studio; colleagues feel in the dark far too often for decisions -HR is atypical and nonfunctional; heavily defends action of senior leadership and does not give a voice to the studio. -studio culture is lacking, irrespective of work from home. this was a problem pre-pandemic -there is an air of disrespect among many in the studio towards their colleagues, especially by titled staff and senior leadership -overtime has sadly become the norm. work life balance has largely been eroded -turnover the last few years and months has been concerning -the office has become far too politically-motivated and lacks depth on matters of diversity -too much emphasis placed on new employees’ stance on social issues instead of their merits and ability

A decent portfolio filler with caveats

Pros

A gem of an office space, adorned with a talented and well-intentioned team, for the most part. The company does, generally, very high level work.

Cons

The company exhibits a pattern of nepotism in the hiring and favoritism in the promotion, where certain individuals receive preferential treatment leading to disparities in standards, occasionally not based on merit. Transparency at senior level, though improved over the past few months, is still lacking, evidenced by secrecy surrounding crucial decisions, that employees suffered last year. This contributed to a general feeling of negativity regarding the safety of the job and the company as a whole in the future. While the company espouses diversity and equity, the actions and profiles of senior leadership frontally contradict these values. Neglect of compensation and time-off updates within the local market challenges a healthy work-life balance, particularly in a city like NY, where 2 weeks off a year is increasingly rare. Last minute approaches to deadlines suggest a lack of coordination in management. Alarmingly high percentage of Project managers with despotic personality traits. This led to the resignation of multiple employees. Bonuses or out-of-the-ordinary incentives are nonexistent.
