Pros

The people I worked with were awesome, outside of management. The frequency of performance reviews were helpful to know how you were doing each quarter. The health and dental benefits were great.

Cons

The company grew in its first few years, but has been stagnant since but they would never admit it. Instead they find other ways to slice the data so it appears they are growing when they have flat lined. They constantly tout that they are "rapidly growing" but they are either decreasing staff or trying to hire to keep up to their attrition. There are very little career advancement opportunities for this reason - if the company is not growing, then it is hard to be promoted into a meaningful position vs. a title change with a few added responsibilities. There is very little clear direction at the company - all town halls and yearly state of the unions are filled with buzzwords and a variety of different manufactured numbers. Any positive reviews here were written by current employees when prompted to by management. Management does not take kindly to people expressing any constructive criticism or concerns that employees have.

Pros

The benefits and vacation time was nothing short of exceptional The team building exercises were unorthodox but showed a step in the right direction

Cons

The company is ego driven in a niche market, however the fact that it's a niche (only pre construction condos) they're having a difficult time. I have never worked in a place where morale is low, the management has failed in all aspects of creating a successful business. Vacation time is not paid out and they expect employees to work upwards of 11 hours a day without vacation time being payed or overtime being payed. Egos drive management, titles are misleading and the culture is nothing short of pretentious. The turnover rate is unbelievably high, they also have a terrible reputation in the industry, no place to move up

Ouch. There are a lot of inaccuracies in this review, which is very concerning. We encourage all employees to take their vacation time as we feel it leads to a better work-life balance and improves employee morale. In the event that someone leaves part way through the year, we do pay out all vacation time accrued on their final cheque. If you did not receive your compensation, please contact our HR department. I receive daily reports from basically every employee at BuzzBuzzHome, and I am not aware of anyone who works 11 hours per day. Of course, at a startup, there are times when people work late, but we try to keep this to a minimum. Contrary to what you posted, we are extremely successful and on average grow at a rate of 6 to 10% per month, month over month. We currently have 40 staff, are hiring more, and we are profitable. It is working within a niche segment of the market that has allowed us fine tune our services and ensure that new home purchasers (and now renters) are receiving the best experience possible online. As for our reputation within the industry, we are one of the most respected firms operating in pre-construction and real-estate. We provide insight, and information, into the market never made public before. We have incredible relations within the industry, often speak at industry events, and are often the voice of the industry in major publications. Of course, disrupting and industry does create some unhappy people, but we don't mind. Regards, Matthew Slutsky President / Co-founder, BuzzBuzzHome Corp.

It made me appreciate every other job I've had

Pros

The place offers a great health/dental plan. I've never seen my dentist so regularly. They also manage to hire some very talented people.

Cons

The biggest con I can mention is that this list is going to be much longer than the 'pros'. Projects are poorly managed: a high level idea will exist, but a full set of specs and requirements won't be completed until your project is already late, and then you will have to try to explain why your project is late. You will also be expected to pick up additional projects outside the scope of (and in addition to) what you were initially hired to do. (example: secretarial duties). Failure to do so will reflect poorly during your reviews. You will be micro-managed by the executive team, no matter what level of employee you are. Executives go to great lengths to completely bypass the team managers that they've hired and appointed, subverting the authority of the managers and taking any faith away in the chain of command. As hard as you're working, you'll notice certain executives are just playing call of duty and watching youtube videos all day. Office morale is low since the company itself has a higher turnover number than its size can support. The working environment is highly nepotistic. Job postings themselves are a mishmash of buzzwords. Also, any company that has to list 'snacks', 'casual dress code', and 'paid public holidays' as 'perks' should raise some sort of red flag. A large number of employees have staked out neighboring cafes and public restrooms, since the ones located in the office are grossly inadequate. There was even a chart once to make sure that no two people were using the same public facility.

Thank your for your feedback. I am sorry to hear about your experience at BuzzBuzzHome; it is disappointing to hear, and I do not think it is a representative experience or the morale of most people at BuzzBuzzHome. First I want to deal with your comment about picking up additional tasks that you were not hired to do, such as your example of “secretarial duties”. This is correct, and something that I am proud of. At heart we are still a startup, and we have not hired secretaries for any of our staff. As such, our staff are expected to write their own correspondences, answer their own phones, and write out their own memos. I have always liked the fact that everyone, from the most senior people to the most junior team members, answer phones, and help around the office. You raise some great points, which we are aware of and are working to fix, such as: 1. We only moved into our new office 6 months ago, and will be starting new washroom renovations next month; 2. We recently hired a new VP - Engineering and have created a product development team, so that “management” does not have to micro manage the development process. I am surprised that you had issues with our perks and benefits. We work really hard to create the best possible work environment, and through this we often cater meals, our office is always stocked with healthy snacks, soda, unlimited beer and wine, we have an incredible medical plan (which I see you liked, and hopefully you will thank us in the future for helping fight gum disease!), we have a great paid flex-day plan, a stock-option plan, and we offer very competitive salaries - just to name a few perks and benefits. We are always looking for ways to make our work environment better and more fun for our team. I am sorry that BuzzBuzzHome was not for you, and I wish you success in finding a position in a more corporate environment that is a better fit for you.
