Pros

There are some intelligent, caring and dedicated staff at all levels of the organization. The housing and residential programs generally seem to be well-managed. Compared to some other organizations I have worked for, Buckelew does much better when it comes to having thorough policies and procedures. Some employees complained about all the paperwork and forms, but overall, I think they were helpful. There were new senior management positions created and this seems related to expansion plans. I have heard good things about the new executive director from current employees, but I left before she was hired.

Cons

There is a wide variation in terms of how individual programs are managed. I worked at an organization that merged with Buckelew and I feel the program quality went way down after the merger. This seems partly due to financial issues and partly due to the fact that many aspects of the merger were handled poorly. Our program received some generous donations and there was a lot of internal strife over how those donated funds were to be used. A lot of people quit right before I left. There has been very high turnover. Some programs are in bad shape financially, while others seem to do well. There were a few program managers who seemed obviously problematic, based on casual observation at various meetings. I am not sure how those people came to be hired/promoted or what kind of monitoring/review they receive. There was an interim executive director in place when I left and she seemed pretty unprofessional in many different ways.

Pros

Some staff are nice and know how to do their job

Cons

Management is never there, you are always asked to work long hours without anyone to help, no one ever responds to emails or phones calls, the turnover rate is so high that they bribe staff to work 16 hour days, meds are a joke, you are bullied by your supervisor, no help with violent and agressive patients, they dont report safety/security problems. They dont hire people with any training, they only want staff to fill shifts and do their work for them, this is a toxic work environment
