Pros

Benefits such as vacation time and health insurance. Co-workers that work together as a team; if you are in the right library.

Cons

Administration that only cares about themselves and only themselves. No respect for people who served in the United States Armed Forces. Broward County Library is very "woke". You could be reported for telling a homeless person there is no sleeping allowed in the library. You aren't allowed to discipline children who are misbehaving. Employees could lose their jobs if they have a medical emergency. Many years ago, an ex-employee who was a former Vietnam War veteran almost lost his job for having a seizure on the job. The Federal government became involved and saved his job. This is a true story. Supervisors and branch managers will defend criminals and assailants and blame the victims for the "troubles " the lawbreakers instigate. Library managers enjoy taunting and bullying employees for their personal enjoyment. Racist and sexist environment where both men and women do what they can to deny success to those who work hard.

Pros

Some good staff and some great customers.

Cons

After losing a good director, the Library system started on its downward spiraland became a place of work environment stress by writing people up, telling management that employees don't deserve a performance ratings greater than meets exceptions, no transparency in planning, no respect for experienced staff, obvious age discrimination, a hiring process from the stone ages, and it is such a shame to see these changes happen to the 1996 Library of the Year. Every community is a little different, and every library should reflect that difference, instead of the cookie cutter approach of all libraries be identical in hours and services.
