Pros

Bronxworks is involved in worthwhile, impactful projects.

Cons

The low $30,000 range is not enough to pay rent and survive in New York City, let alone live comfortably.

Good entry level job, but not much else

Pros

You get to feel like you're very involved in helping low income people in the Bronx. There's also a decent employer match for retirement funding

Cons

The organization lacks an analysis of the causes of poverty and lacks an identity outside of government subcontracting. There's little room for growth and the executive management is notorious for micromanaging and mistreating employees.

Homebase 630 is Terrible

Pros

Doing good things for the clients, important work

Cons

Upper Management is terrible. Everyone at the program is either brand new, leaving or looking for another job so they can leave. Upper Management thinks they are better than everyone else. Will nit pick everything you do so they can find a reason to embarrass you in front of your peers and write you up. Honest mistakes are met with hostility and public shaming is the method of addressing them. There is no real training, no handbook of policies, you will be screamed at and shamed when you break one because you didn’t know about it. The work is important and pay is decent but it is not worth what you have to deal with from upper management, who is ruining the whole program and is the cause of such high turnover.
