Destroying a once decent company

Pros

Manager dependent, but not much to state here.

Cons

They are destroying what used to be an amazing company and eroding the culture on a daily basis. They do not care about their employees, clients or contractual obligations… just their stock value and stake-holders. Funny thing, their stock is rapidly declining under current leadership, which is public information. CEO is way out of his league here and has no business running a landscape company - he has never known a hard days work in his life and now makes unilateral decisions for the company. They only care about growth, not service which is why retention, both employee and client, are immensely declining. You cannot grow without first retaining what you have hence why company Net New is often trending in decline not growth. Training used to be a big deal here. Now everything is just a digital catalog. Also, largest company (by far) in the industry but also pays the least and offers no technology, proprietary or otherwise. All of our systems are incredibly outdated and just create more work and longer turnaround times for clients. Yet, spent a fortune to install big brother in all management trucks - watch and listen to you 24/7. Yes, 24/7 (video AND audio) even in your personal time outside of business hours when you pay out of your own pocket to have the truck. Can’t communicate internally, left hand never knows what the right hand is doing… how do you think that reads to our clients. Not well.

Pros

No pros at the moment - all pros have been silently eliminated in the last few years

Cons

Leadership is not transparent in directives, and obviously deceptive if you're listening closely and asking the right questions. Directives do not come with valid reasoning, stops short at vague explanations of "growth" and "best practices". Training is non-existent due to recent turnaround and vacant positions not being filled. You must know what to do and how to do it perfectly, or else it will become a stain on your reputation within the company. Extremely hostile environment.

Pros

Great people to work with and work is fulfilling. Note Andrew Masterman is not the CEO, Dale Asplund is.

Cons

Leadership only cares about what is the cheapest path forward. Does not truly value all revenue streams within the company.

Pros

- Dedicated teams in the field doing their best under pressure - Gained valuable insight into what not to do as a leader

Cons

- As a manager, I witnessed firsthand the lack of accountability and professionalism from senior leadership - Raises are minimal or nonexistent, no matter how well your team performs - Culture of overworking employees without recognition or support - Leadership repeatedly stated that industry standards don’t apply because BrightView is a public company - Constant gossip and power plays among senior leadership, especially the VPGM in the Great Lakes region, who fosters a toxic and divisive work environment - Decisions are made based on politics, not performance - Employee morale is dangerously low due to job cuts, and turnover is high—yet leadership shows no urgency to change

Pros

Great teammates, excellent staff. Knowledgeable and hard workers, focused on solving problems and making sure the company thrives.

Cons

Completely unstable C suite, focused on bottom line and profit to the exclusion of customers and staff. Once they cleaned house with the IT management, they implemented sycophants that just back the CEO, regardless of the effectiveness to support the long term prosperity of the business. Dale Asplund is a terrible CEO who does not understand the customers or the business of a profitable landscaping company. Since the departure of the Brickmans and the Sperbers this company has had no compass or leadership that puts customers and people first, it's all about making money for Private Equity.
