Pros

- Not bad base salary for mid level engineer with 1-2 YR exp - some really smart engineers work here.

Cons

- equity is peanuts which leads to lower motivation to actually help company succeed (increase stake in company leads to higher desire to help company break through current valuation, in my exp) - seems to be a habit of giving managerial roles to engineers who do not deserve to be managers at the current time. a. managers do not listen to engineers desire for different work b. managers show preferential treatment by delegating certain work to specific engineers, thereby stunting engineer growth c. managers show preferential treatment by grading other engineers to a different standard than others - some of the aforementioned really smart engineers are extremely stereotypical really smart engineers: cocky, dismissive, and downright rude. - had a principal engineer on my team make a racist joke in standup and single out other engineers for not laughing - managers also don't understand scope of projects and hire incorrectly (bait and switch role description) - cosplaying as a crypto startup when in actuality they are more like a bank. - SEC drama, layoffs, reorgs - bad interviewing format leads to poor hires which leads to more fires (100% behavioral interview for engineering) - there are better firms that do what we do

Got fired without reason

Pros

Great teammates, and you can learn about elixir from them

Cons

Awful organization, they say something but do something different. I and others got fired without reason, compensation or announcement. I received an offer from another company a month ago and they paid me more to stay, to not lose me, and now I got fired without reason.

Pros

If you haven't experienced a startup before, this is a good crash course. You'll learn a lot in a short amount of time as long as you're okay with sacrificing your mental health. It was worth it early on and I was eventually able to leave and take on a leadership role at another company. In hindsight, I would have left after the first year though.

Cons

A lot of the bottlenecks started with leadership. The problem was that by the time you wrapped your head around how to solve things, executives would change their mind again. Dishonest, misguided, and unfortunate for folks who put effort into their job. Major warning if you're a minority - do not work here. There's a lot of talk about diversity but zero representation. There are some leaders who will have your back but do not be surprised if you're passed up for opportunities even if you put in the work (and keep an eye out for who they give them to instead). Lastly, bullying in the workplace by management, senior executives, and c-suite. I could piece a scrapbook together of all the screenshots I have. Great reminders for why I left.
