Where do I start.... This has probably been the worst company I have ever worked for hands down. It is a dictator type of management style, the manager has no shame yelling at employees in front of everyone. They will shame you and guilt you if you do not work more than 8 hours or come in on weekends. If you make a mistake once you are in their black book of "idiots" and no matter how much you try you will never be able to get out of that mindset that you are forever stupid. It is always the managers way or the highway, they will not value your input no matter how smart or intelligent you are. You are simply just not smart enough. Hence why the dynamic of the groups and employees were so low, everyone was out for each other because they did not want to look bad and honestly I didn't blame them. I felt sorry for the employees because it was just a depressing environment. I knew countless employees who were legitimately depressed and had to go through therapy because how much they hated their life at BioLegend. Those employees do not work there anymore and are no longer depressed.
I worked at Biolegend for a year and a half and watched 8 employees come and go in just my department! By the time I left, the department I worked in was full of totally different employees. Trust me I counted and still talk to every single person that left or was on their way out. They do not value their employees, they are disposable and will have no issue hiring some schmuck straight out of college because they know no better. Even as a new grad, you get hired, work here for a year just to gain experience will be an absolute waste of your time. After I left for another well known and reputable company I was actually embarrassed with how little my experience was from BioLegend that I don't even talk about this company during my interviews and discuss my jobs before I worked at BioLegend because honestly I have nothing to showcase from this company. Absolute waste of my time. Maybe the only experience I gained was learning how to deal with a manager and supervisor who create a hostile environment and also appreciate every other job I have ever worked for.
All the instruments you work with are from the 70's, used and almost 90% of the instruments are discontinued, so parts to fix the instruments were non existent. Hence why all the instruments would be bought on eBay. It was pathetic. Their website claims "state of the art facility," absolutely not, very old school. Quality is not of their concern. I look back now and am floored at what they consider quality and that the company tries to say they value quality because I can tell you now, with their shenanigans they could care less.
BioLegend has become one of those companies that you just joke about with your new co-workers and the friends that left the company. I guess you can say it helped me bond with more people because it truly is a hilarious experience (not while you are working there!) Someone has either heard of this company or worked for them and it's a constant "Wow, did you hear about so and so's experience?" and we just laugh it off, trying to forget what a nightmare it was to work there.
Just. Stay. Away. It's a complete waste of time. If you are desperate, sure accept their offer but if you get an offer somewhere else after a month or two, take it and run! Trust me, there is no experience to be gained here and don't be ashamed to leave, you will be doing yourself a favor.
