Pros

- Dog friendly - Semi flexible, manager dependent ... struggling to come up with other pros...

Cons

BISSELL was once an exhilarating, challenging (in a good way), fun, and encouraging place to work. Boy has that ever changed. BISSELL is currently ignoring associates cries for help, pretending to address issues instead of actually taking the time to fix them, and has absolutely no strategy, terrible leadership and leadership training. They will take advantage of associates until they put their two-week notice in and then scramble back with a counter offer. A great organization would proactively encourage and empower, incentivize, and competitively pay their current employees. I would highly recommend staying away from any sales or marketing related position here. You will be overworked, under appreciated, and burn out extremely fast. There are plenty of better opportunities elsewhere.

Pros

There are some great people at the company and they really do a lot for pet owners and the animal adoption industry through their pet foundation. Half day Friday's are a bonus, although I would be willing to bet those go away soon with the general direction leadership is taking.

Cons

Leadership will straight up gaslight you about your pay/benefits, recognition is extremely sparse, and overall compensation is openly on the lower end of the spectrum. Very hard to move up rapidly. They put out surveys claiming they take them very seriously and then just completely ignore most feedback and spin the results in a way that fits what they were planning on doing anyways despite the general consensus of employees. The vast majority wanted to work remote as much as possible, and they doubled down on coming into the office. People complained about compensation not being fair, they then put out a ridiculous tone deaf presentation using external glass door data (not the internal survey of bissell associates) stating most people value corporate culture over pay. Just insulting responses to legitimate concerns from employees that want to help make things better only to be met with gaslighting from management and getting ignored. They lean on "company culture" that has clearly deteriorated and changed drastically during the pandemic and refuse to accept the changing labor landscape in favor of what they have always done. Sales are continuing to slump alongside increased costs, so the company switched to a bi-quarterly bonus payout in an effort to maintain cashflow, and there is not a light at the end of the tunnel of this downturn. Directors have told employees straight to their face when presented with legitimate work place concerns that "if you don't like it here, you can leave." There is a mass exodus happening across the organization due to the environment created willingly by leadership and this will only get worse unless largescale change is made to their stance on employee retention. When other job offers are presented, there is either a laughably small counter offer made or just none whatsoever despite years of service to hold on to employees. Definitely do not recommend applying here if you plan on working at a company for more than 1-2 years.

Pros

Pay is decent for the West Michigan area. Lots of opportunity for junior levels.

Cons

Minimal career advancement for experienced personnel. Benefits are slowly deteriorating. Middle management tells senior management what they want to hear instead of the truth and what they need to hear. Work life balance is awful, especially for functions that are required to have frequent night teleconferences with Asia.
