Pros

Well, there are superficial positives: pension, benefits, free parking, on site cafeteria. But they need to offer these things because it is such a bad messed up place to work.

Cons

Where do I begin? I worked at BCLC for 3 months I knew I had to leave - pension vested and now I am outta here. Worst decision of my career. No growth. Boring work. Tons of red tape. Bad management. People only care about protecting their own jobs. The company wastes tax payers money and the VP's in this company are incompetent. I worked with them so trust me when I say this. The only way to move up is by who you know - that was demonstrated over and over. And, beware, if you are in Vancouver just know that jobs and chances for advancement are not in Vancouver. The HR department had a mass exodus a while ago - the VP, director, managers and others all left at the same time!! There were a few people holding down the fort and guess what? They left too....Those were the ones that BCLC should have done everything to keep. RED FLAG people - The company doesn't care about its people, just optics. I work with this HR team and it has gone downhill. There is one new manager that is reprimanding the team and doesn't take accountability for her own issues. THEY TALK - what you say and your management style is not a secret!! They are promoting and keep people that are incompetent so no wonder this is how the company operates.

Doesn't Walk the Talk

Pros

- Defined benefit pension - Medical benefits are pretty good - Not much metrics to measure performance - No employee were cut due to COVID-19 for now

Cons

- Politics & fiefdom are everywhere - Directions given are vague and very politically worded - Wants to run like a non-government tech company, but staff operates with a mindset of government - Lots of lifers with "it has been always been done this way" mentality - Even within a team, staff work in silos - Human Resources support employers, rather than employees & HR is defensive all the time with what needs to be changed for employees. - No repercussions handed to micromanagers or under-managers - Everyone is about saving their 'face' rather than telling the truth and work towards a better organization.

Hi there! Thank you for leaving your detailed thoughts on Glassdoor! I might suggest you bring up these concerns with your People and Culture Advisor as they seem to pertain to a specific situation with specific objective behaviors. I'm sure you'll find an ear to listen. Also, I encourage you to attend our conferences that begin next week with our Re-Visioning Conference where every employee will be able to participate in shaping our OneBCLC and P360 strategies! Thanks again!
