Pros

Flexible work schedule - if you have a doctors appointment you can just make the hours up during the week. You can work longer days throughout the week to have half days off on Fridays. Floating holidays - you can move a holiday to any other day within that month Opportunity to connect with a lot of coworkers in the same field as you

Cons

This company truly doesn't care about their workers (at least the GIS technicians) and just used us as robots. The pay was very low for the amount of work and stress that came along with it, there was never a moment of downtime unless the server was down and you may or may not get paid for your time then. The micromanaging was intense, we were told projects had to be done within a certain amount of billable hours which was never nearly enough and had to let supervisors know if we thought we were going to be over that. So not only are you rushed to finish your project, but you are also graded on them. Therefore you are providing work that is not up to your own standards given the time, but the grading is what they score you on in your yearly review (if you make it that far). They hired us all on to meet their deadlines, and then fired over 100 people (full time and contracted employees) once their deadlines were made. We were working overtime the majority of the summer to only be told the Tuesday morning after Labor Day weekend that we were unemployed at the end of the meeting. The meeting showed no emotion, strictly only informational based and then immediately after the meeting our emails and teams were shut down, they didn't even have the decency to stay for questions at the end or allow us to say goodbye to our supervisors for future references. This company, and at this point NV5, have no care for their workers. They will work them to the ground till they are no longer needed for their gain. I hope this is the worst job I ever have because I can't see it getting worse than this (I have worked in many different sectors of the environmental/geography fields and even food service and this has been the worst so far).

Pros

Amazing people working the same projects as you. They are the reason I'm still working there. fully remote position and relatively flexible scheduling

Cons

Where do I even start? Recently over 70 contacted workers were laid off with two weeks notice, and during those two weeks they are expected to work overtime on a grueling project to get it out the door on time. No projects are lined up for those of us like myself who are full time Axim employees so I'm expecting a furlough soon. Management is terrible and there is little to no communication from them. Pay is abysmal and not consistent among employees with the same title/experience and when employees asked for a raise to cover inflation or even the chance for pay transparency, we were pretty much laughed at. If you want a raise you are expected to go above and beyond the heavy workload that is already present, and let me be honest it's NOT worth it. There are chances to "move up" in your position but that doesn't come with any added benefits- just more work for yourself. Axim was recently acquired by NV5 and the entire acquisition process has been quite embarrassing for Axim. The first meeting all the employees had with the president of NV5 was laughable- he talked on and on about worthless stuff and answered every question with "I don't know" or something completely irrelevant. The acquisition will also bring more negatives to Axim employees than benefits, for example less paid holidays and less PTO. I might try to stick it out a year at this place (if I don't get laid off before then) but I will definitely not be staying here long.

Pros

They have multiple fridges to keep your lunch in.

Cons

I began as an underpaid worker and quickly worked my way into a promotion and management position. The company decided they couldn’t afford to give me a raise, but couldn’t afford to give me less responsibility. Once I ran into the CEO while I was using the restroom and he just said “You matter at this company” without knowing my name or anything about who I am. When COVID started it took 6 months for a statement to be released. The job is entirely online and can be done from home but all workers were required to be in the cramped office while management stayed home. Below market pay, no advancement, unpaid responsibilities, 90% disgruntled coworkers, very aggressive management. Only take this job if it is your last option to build a resume.
