Pros

Dedicated and highly trained professional staff, interesting students from many walks of life, and the vast Mediterranean Sea in Greece....What's NOT to love??? If you want to discover the beauty of the Aegean sea while exploring issues related to the impact of climate change and man-made threats to the marine life, the Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation's program will be difficult to beat. An added benefit is a chance to meet great people and the opportunity to work on your research for your Master's thesis as well..... This is truly a special opportunity for special people. I feel honoured to have been able to participate in this program.

Cons

There is no public transports in the island but can rent a taxi if anyone needs to go anywhere...not a con to me but worth to mention.

Pros

The Archipelagos Institute fights for marine conservation on many different fronts, meaning there is a lot going on and many different projects happening at the same time. You will be able to learn and work on diverse topics, while gaining solid experience in field work, creation of a research project, data collection/analysis, scientific writing, technical software, technical research equipment, etc. The team leaders and directors are passionate about the work they do and will encourage you to pursue your goals and your project. If you're passionate, self driven and independant, this is the place for you.

Cons

If you are not very passionate or if you expect the work to be done for you while the only thing you do is data collection on the boat, this is not the place for you. Living in a research base on a remote island also means the living conditions are quite simple. You'll be sharing a room, experience power cuts and might not always have hot showers.

Working at a NGO in Greece

Pros

Working at Archipelagos allows you to understand the operation of an NGO. As a Supervisor of a research team, you get the chance to supervise and guide young minds and to make sure they get advice and support on their projects as well as on decisions they want to make concerning their careers. The research base is located on a Greek Island in front of the sea. The team is formed by a group of international people which gives the opportunity to learn how to work with different cultures and age ranges.

Cons

The research base is located in a remote location which is not always suitable for everybody.
