Pros

You can learn retail basics and e-commerce functions, it will help you gain knowledge on the global Amazon tools and processes.

Cons

I have worked close to 3 years here as a vendor manager. There was a change in leadership here recently and the new leaders do not have business knowledge. Instead of getting guidance and support you will get follow ups and tight deadlines. Managers never back you up in business teams. They keep giving you false hopes of promoting, I fell for the same and stayed long enough to get mine. Work life balance is not zero but negative, they have clear expectations that you should not have a family life . I have even heard from a manager asking an employee to comeback from his hometown to Bangalore because he was trying give some time to his family during COVID, quoting if he stays with family he can’t focus on work. When the employee countered, he was told to find a smaller job which will give him more time for family. Pay compensation is peanuts, I’m not exaggerating. When I came out of Appario I understood the market and without any negotiation I was offered 35% hike. You will always see 1 guy doing the work of more than 3 people Please don’t join if you want career growth, Money and work life balance.

Pros

1. Exposure to sound management practices especially decision making methodologies (narrative writing et al) 2. High prevalence of autonomy (at least in the function). Goal setting is maturity map driven and very bottoms-up 3. Very competitive pay and very good variable payouts (despite being less than 5 years old, the company is very profitable) 4. Good career growth assuming one has made sufficient efforts (the org indexes heavily on performance)

Cons

1. There is an overt focus on internal ways of working (granted they are fairly sound). While that has led to success in the past the general athlete talent philosophy could be restrictive from a functional preparedness standpoint especially for higher order roles where thought leadership is expected. 2. Work life balance has been an issue on most times given the quantum of work. However, of late , staffing has significantly improved to cater to the function's charter. 3. Decision making is overly consensus driven. Hampers execution speed at times especially for those executing. However , I have seen improvements in this area of late. 4.Some times the management practices that we espouse are overused with every small decision requiring narratives et al. Some of them should be solved over a 30 minute conversation.
