Pros

- Good place to learn growth - Will make an impact within your first 2 months on your client - Smart and ambitious co-workers - Doors open up after 6 months of working at Ampush

Cons

- Horrible work-life balance: 60+ hour weeks, including weekends and evenings, and holidays. I cannot stress this enough - there practically is no balance. - Despite unlimited PTO, the only way to take time off is to work even more hours which leads to burnout -Morale has declined over the past 2 years as key figures departed the company all the while work-life balance declined - Management and SLT seem ill-equipped to fix work-life balance which has worsened during COVID - Compensation doesn't justify working conditions or impact made at the company - Your experience and growth varies based on your manager and client but, the promotion process doesn't account for that - Large and frequent turnover contributes to a lack of culture

Pros

I would not have wanted to start my career anywhere else. Ampush is great for many reasons. Here are the ones that matter to me: 1. You own your success - very early on you are given responsibility over important account functions, external communication, and data analysis. Step up to this responsibility and you can accelerate your career. 2. Skill development - although you are given responsibility early, it is not without oversight. Management makes sure you learn the hard and soft skills you need to become a top-tier growth marketer. 3. Company culture - this workplace is fun! Employees are generally intelligent, driven, and excited about the work they do. In addition, regular company-sponsored events are always a blast.

Cons

Most of these are industry cons are present in all marketing agencies: 1. Depending on your team, peak seasons can have long hours (10+) 2. Some clients are easier to work with than others. That said, senior leadership is usually good about fixing these issues if they come up. 3. This is a small and agile business. Changes in team structure / partnership deals can leave you picking up the slack of someone else. While this can be a good learning experience, other times it can be overwhelming.

Smart people, misguided leadership

Pros

-Smart and fun people, very easy to make friends and build genuine connections especially if you're in NYC (majority of the growth org) -Great place to learn growth marketing, a high demand skillset these days -Opportunities to push yourself and level up quickly, if you're willing to put in the hours -Workload is pretty manageable if you're on a well staffed team, otherwise can be long hours/be pretty inconsistent -Entry level salary is competitive, after a year or so not so much -Would recommend to new grads who are interested in DTC, growth marketing, or consulting but wouldn't recommend staying past 1-2 years

Cons

-The average age at Ampush is probably about 25. Everyone is super young, even senior leadership. Many of them have no idea how to actually be a manager, and are severely lacking in the emotional intelligence needed from a people manager. Big disconnect/lack of trust between junior folks and senior folks as a result. -There are serious DEIB issues (lack of diversity generally, misgendering, lack of inclusive language, ignoring ignorant comments from clients, the list goes on) + serious acts of harassment such as members of SLT getting drunk at work events and saying/doing highly inappropriate things... best of all no repercussions for it! I'm sad to say during my time at Ampush I didn't take these things as seriously as I should've, but after working at a company where inclusivity and professionalism are prioritized, I realize I and my coworkers shouldn't have accepted these offenses as normal. -Your success and happiness is highly dependent on the partner you're staffed on and if you're lucky enough to have a manager who will advocate for you. -A generous way to phrase the culture is work hard play hard. Realistically, they champion hero culture, praising people for grinding and as a result, burning out. Those who last long enough ultimately drink the kool-aid and seemingly lose touch with reality, perpetuating the same toxic culture they once complained about as an analyst. -Retention is terrible. People churn out after ~1 year when they realize they can have a better work life balance, better pay, and better/more experienced management elsewhere. -Always on: After hours, holidays, weekends. Even if you're not actively working you're expected to be checking in and optimizing every few hours.

Pros

- Learn a ton in a very short period of time and the opportunity for growth is massive. If you work hard and do a good job, you will definitely be rewarded. - The startup culture allows you to give feedback and make an impact on the way the company operates. - Gain a lot of experience in communication, presenting to high level executives on the client side - Energetic environment with great people. Great place to make friends.

Cons

- Long hours; not a typical 9-5. - A lack of mid-level leadership at times: people are promoted from within (which is great) but that tends to lead to a gap where there are a ton of young analysts and not enough experienced leaders.

great place to learn

Pros

Ampush is a great place to learn growth marketing. One reason why it's great is how partnerships work at Ampush-- incentive are aligned, so you'll be working closely with the partner company to drive growth.

Cons

Long hours, especially depending on your assignment. Definitely a place that plays favorites. Ironically, as a performance-driven company, performance impacts on the partner level don't seemingly play a role in promotion decisions. In general, the people management is bad. It feels like Ampush will always prioritize profit + revenue over building a more sustainable work culture. It works for some people, but burnout is a very real thing. If you're not ready to put in long hours (consistent 60+ hours), I would not recommend working here.

A great place to start your career

Pros

The typical Ampusher is 22-28 y/o, went to a T25 school, and has an interest in tech and start ups (more so than an interest in advertising or marketing). - You'll find yourself surrounded by a bunch of really smart, driven people, who go on to lead inspiring careers, and work at top-caliber companies. It's an excellent opportunity for professional networking. - Ampush hires in classes, which makes it easier to learn alongside your peers and make friends, if this is your first job out of college. - Growth marketing skills are in high-demand, and Ampush is widely regarded as the best in the business for outsourced growth (and it's pricetag to clients attests to that). - Strong company emphasis on learning and development. - There's a defined career path (albeit, one that revises itself frequently) if you choose to stay for a few years. - Relative to other agency-type of jobs, Ampush's comp is competitive. - Ampush's culture can be a pro or con depending on how you look at it. There's a strong expectation that you work long hours, but I found that if you set clear boundaries, most managers respected them. Ampush is scrappy and casual. - It is very clear that the growth analyst role is the top-priority track within the company, and senior leadership is willing to go out of their way to retain people.

Cons

- I have a mixed outlook on the company and outsourced growth marketing in general. One of the top reasons Ampush client's left was because they wanted to bring efforts in-house. As Facebook, Google and other advertising platforms get more and more automated, this trend is only going to accelerate. Ampush has been at the same headcount for years. - A lot of your experience is dictated by who your manager is. Ampush has some truly wonderful people managers, and some less enjoyable ones. - There's a strong sense of favoritism, particularly with regards to promotions. Some analysts or managers are tapped for an "accelerated" path, and are promoted continuously seemingly regardless of what they do or what peer and upward feedback they get. - The promotion and review process is disliked by most people within Ampush. It is surprisingly rigid for a small company. - Ampush has a tendency to over-engineer projects (e.g. spend a lot of time coming up with plans and models that end up getting scrapped), which can result in burnout and working more hours than necessary. It's a workplace culture for perfectionists.
