Avoid unless you enjoy being micromanaged and constantly undermined.
Pros
The products of the company were very well designed and at a premium quality.
Cons
During my time at Aluvision, there were a number of factors that made the role challenging and ultimately quite frustrating. The management style within the sales team was extremely focused on micromanagement, which limited autonomy and made it difficult to work proactively. For example, sales activity had to be documented multiple times – in a Word document, the CRM system, and again in a weekly report. This resulted in a significant amount of administrative work that often took time away from actual sales activity and customer engagement. Morale within the team was also impacted by the way performance and communication were handled. At times it felt difficult to receive constructive support or encouragement, which can affect confidence and ultimately performance in a sales environment. Compensation also changed during my time with the company. The annual bonus structure was reduced from approximately €12,000 in my first year to around €7,000 the following year, with additional KPIs introduced that made achieving the full bonus considerably more difficult despite similar effort levels. When I left the business, there was very little communication from the company regarding my departure or clarification around why the annual target payment had not been made, even after several follow-ups. A more transparent approach would have been appreciated. From a sales perspective, the process was also quite rigid. Sales managers were expected to follow a very structured approach based around a large presentation deck of over 600 slides, leaving little room for adapting to individual customer needs or personal selling styles. Interestingly, my largest order during my time with the company was secured by focusing on relationship-building and understanding the customer’s requirements rather than strictly following the presentation format. Finally, the benefits package was relatively limited compared with similar roles in the industry. There was no company sick pay, no private medical insurance, no flexibility in company car choice, and no option to claim time in lieu when travelling to the Belgium headquarters over weekends. Overall, while the company has a strong product offering, improvements in management approach, internal communication, and employee benefits would significantly improve the working environment.
