Pros

The employees are passionate, loyal, knowledgeable and go out of their way to help colleagues and customers.

Cons

The new senior management team, unfortunately, does not recognise this and has recently ‘removed’ a large number of these passionate, dedicated and knowledgable people in the most appallingly organised restructure in history. People have been treated with no respect, no thought and no care whatsoever.

Thank you for your comments. It's good to hear that the teams you work with are passionate and loyal and want to do a great job, and it's good to hear that people are so focused. As you know, we are currently transforming our business and this can be very unsettling for everyone. Restructures are always difficult and these decisions are never taken lightly. We have tried to support those impacted with CV and job hunting support and with our Employee Assistance Programme. The Executive Team chose to forgo their transformation bonus. We hope you have started to see positive changes since your comments made in August.

Pros

Very political. Promotions are given to friends of friends, and often not to hardworkers. Senior management do not care about the smaller pools of workers. You will be disciplined if something is done wrong, but if something is done excellently, no one will mention anything. Not open to changes despite saying that they are Staff turnover in IT is very high. You will be hard pressed to find anyone who knows how the systems work because most of the staff have not been there long. They all quit how can anyone stay there and stay sane its not possible. Staff are told off if they do overtime but only take time-in-lui. But they are also expected to work many evenings and weekends with no notice because the projects are not planned at all and are implemented in haphazard last minute fashion. Don't make any plans for a life outside of work. IT department can work from home but arent allowed, eventhough management states it. There aren't enough people in IT to do the work. Real qualified IT staff are outnumbered by managers and project managers and all sorts of service managers. Manager waste the workers times in meetings and discussions and answering pointless emails. There is little time left to fix issues or close calls. Managers arent skilled and will not cascading down knowledge to staff once they know.

Cons

There is a long company statement called the affinity way that says how the staff should all be nice to each other and respect each other. But I have never seen such culture as they have there, such bullying and backbiting, people ridiculing other people's suggestions, people refusing to believe what other people say and not being listened to.

Hi, its Debbie, People Director at Affinity Water. Thank you for taking time to share your experience of your time with us. There is a lot you have shared, it is important we talk about. Please schedule a time we can do this in confidence, either with me or Claire who partners with IT. You are right we have expanded the IT team significantly over the past few years. It was outsourced previously and we wanted to invest in technology and wanted talented people to help us do so. We have doubled the number of people directly working for us. You are right, we have a hardworking team in IT, as we do across the whole of Affinity Water.
