Good and bad

Pros

Most people are good that I work with. There are many fun company events that we do in the year.

Cons

I have been working here for a few years. I do like working here but I have seen a lot of people come and leave. People are afraid to talk to their supervisors. I like to work 8 hours of work and go home. recently my conscius is troubling me. I was asked by my superviser to complete a survey for 2016 Best Places To Work. My superviser told me to say that we are afraid to go to HR with problems or questions. Also to rate HR badly with bad comments. I was afraid I will lose my job if I didn't say those things and I feel badly now. HR has never been bad to me and they are friendly too. They put on a lot of fun events for us and do not deserve this. I feel so bad and I do not suggest anyone to work here.

Messy Politics

Pros

The work hours are manageable. Most people are friendly and have good intentions. You get a chance to wear many hats because it's a small company.

Cons

Toxic political environment with obvious double standards and backstabbing. There are a few bullies around the office who do not hesitate to spew insults and throw others under the bus. Worst of all, management supports them and doesn't keep them in check, and there is nothing the powerless HR can do to change it. Check LinkedIn to see how many past employees have worked there. For such a small company, that should be a huge red flag to anyone considering Aver.

Pros

1. The people! AVer has somehow managed to hire a great group of people to work for them. But due to the cons, the turnaround on these great people is really high. Also, actually performing the job can make these great people not so great anymore. 2. Benefits! Great options for single people and for families. FSA, VSP, Dental, 401K among many others. 3. Time off! AVer is very great and understanding about "time off" especially if you don't care what other people might say when you take time off. 4. Events! The People team does a great a job of having an event at least once a month. They can be very awkward at times and there is a clear divide when everyone is in a room together. But hey, free food is free food, right? 5. There are opportunities to grow! AVer does a great job of promoting from within. But w/ great power comes great responsibility. A promotion also means A LOT of scrutiny which also means you could be on the chopping block. 6. Flexible schedule! It's not a hard 8-5 which is great! 7. If your team is doing great, then you will reap many many perks and acknowledgements! If it's not doing great, it will be made absolutely clear. 9. A good place to grow and go.

Cons

1. Double work - The level of double work that is done on a daily basis is through the roof. When an attempt to address the "double work" is brought up during meetings in a constructive way, you are railroaded by the accounting team. Simply because it's how it's always been done - suggestions for improvement are rarely taken seriously and you can sometimes walk away from meetings feeling like you are in the Twilight Zone. 2. Outdated Software - Each department uses it in a different way and visibility can sometimes be limited which can tend to create serious problems for the customer. Literally, every department complains why the version is not updated and the excuse is that it would cost too much to upgrade. I googled it once and decided it may be time to start a GoFundMe, because yes, it's that serious! 3. CRM - the company uses its CRM in in an ineffective way. Not everyone has their own account but many need it to make "changes" so instead of getting folks new accounts they simply go to the sales team and have them make the changes because the sales team is certainly not busy enough! 4. Many changes are made to internal processes that directly affect other departments without giving notice to said departments. Be careful with this one because you are expected to somehow know these changes regardless if you were informed or not! So unless you're clairvoyant, expect frustrations and a lot of finger pointing. 5. The politics in this company is truly overwhelming. It's hard to remain "true" to one's self and not "play the game" when your job literally depends on the amount of sucking up you are willing to do. 6. The people at the top are at times reckless and can have very "knee-jerk" reactions to situations that clearly require more attention. Sometimes this results in fundamental changes in your job duties where you rarely have a say. 7. Anyone from your team can be cut at the drop of a dime and instead of implementing a plan for replacement, you are expected to absorb their job on top of yours. So be ready and willing to learn everyone on your teams job because if you don't execute those jobs correctly when they are purged, it could be you that goes next! 8. Unnecessary divides are created between departments because the people at the top, as much as "family" is preached, tend to pin teams against each other. Maybe it's not intentional, but nevertheless, it exists. Be careful what you tell certain people and take what everyone says with a grain of salt. 9. Minimal training is provided - and this one isn't really any one person's fault. I attribute this more to the fact that many of the folks that started the processes owned them and handled them but when they were let go or found a better opportunity, they take these processes with them and the team is left like a deer in the headlights. 10. No offense here but I have to call it like it is - the Accounting team are the biggest bullies here. Beware how you interact with them. Be ready to do a ton of double work to accommodate their "work harder not smarter" values. A lot of their processes were implemented in the 2010's. The business has changed and has advanced, yet we still perform a lot of outdated processes because no one is willing to stand up to them and let them know that maybe those processes worked at the time but they don't now. Also, let's face it, there's a HUGE language barrier. Somethings get so lost in translation that you can feel like you are talking in circles and instead of trying to get down to the true problem, people often get offended and take stuff personally. And when that happens, you better be careful because the accounting team DOES NOT PLAY. They will come for you and smile in your face while they do it. 11. There is no HR department so any issues you may have with anyone in general, if you are being bullied or overworked or treated unfairly, you are pretty much "SOL". Because the company is HQ in Taiwan, they uphold a lot of the traditional Taiwan values where the only thing that matters is the bottom line. Be weary of the "People Team" - there isn't really much they can do when issues come up so sometimes its best to just keep quiet. Bringing up situations can occasionally backfire. 12. Innovation Room - it's a wonderful, fully equipped room that is the center stage for potential employees, but once you get hired, minimize you're time there. At AVer, perception is everything and if you have enough time to relax in the massage chairs then it is perceived that you clearly don't have enough work to do. 13. If you are not a YES man, you will be a NO job having man.
