Pros

If you can deal with the stress here you can work anywhere

Cons

These below points are my own experience of working here. -Poor training, you are basically told to watch recorded teams meeting that are extremely long and that go off topic. -barely any legal work carried out, system is all click through and becomes very monotonous. -if you asks question you are made to feel stupid -I was told the 8am start was meant to be for meetings but these always took place at lunch time and went for a very long time -role plays I found were more of a form of micro managing than training If a company is threatening legal actions on reviews, it speaks volumes and screams red flag. Please read the reviews left on here, they are all pretty much spot on and in line with my experience. I have never felt so on edge working in my own home. Will most likely have a threatening response on this review as they have done on everyone else’s as they clearly cannot take on board feedback which is ironic because of how they give feedback to their staff. They will also accuse an anonymous reviewer of being part of a group of vindictive ex staff members. Honestly laughable. Not everyone leaves a review out of malice and spite- some are legitimate (such as this) and it is important that people do their research on an employer

Thank you for your post. I see you are working here. Please let me let us help you. We can’t if you remain anonymous. It is disheartening l that our investment of the hundreds of hours of time and money in initiatives to create a secure and happier working environment has not been a positive experience so far. It’s not what we want, and are sorry for your perception of us. But if you Flg, or me, or Operations, we want to help. At this stage, I can comment generally: 1/ Micro-managing is definitely not what we want. As an awarding-winning firm, we do have a structure of best practices to guide lawyers in their work which we are obliged to audit. We are only involved if lawyers are not following these, exposing the client to delay, loss and even causing negligence, 2/. The ‘button’ pushing features you refer to are sophisticated intelligence coding to automate mundane tasks as encouraged by the Law Society, the CLC and the legal industry. Its sim is to optimise efficiency, enabling our lawyers to deliver results to our clients in a shorter timeframe compared to the industry average. Our cutting-edge conveyancing industry gold awarded (in 2022) system makes its primary purpose is to utilise innovative technology to streamline mundane tasks to allow our lawyers to concentrate on the creative and technical aspects of their work, to better serve their client's outcomes of moving. 3/ Feeling stupid when asking questions: We never intend to make anyone feel this way. We apologise if you have encountered such experiences. Please let us know, as it’s important to foster an environment where questions are encouraged and all employees feel supported. We purposely have small buddy groups to reduce the risk of this happening in work environments. 4/ I understand that you may not be a fan of role plays. However, it is widely advocated as the best way to train lawyers, offering invaluable experience and constructive feedback to help them handle complex situations more effectively when they arise live. This training method is supported by the Law Society, CLC and training schools, aiming to enhance lawyers ‘soft’ communication skills and overall performance—barristers and when Law school now practice this. 5/. You refer to watching recorded team meetings can be lengthy and occasionally deviate from the main topic. These are the initial starter videos, meant to be viewed in chunks to give a flavour of how we work and guidelines. We also pay for MBL legal training, which we make available for free. We do not take the issue of threatening legal action against reviews lightly. Constructive criticism is vital for organisational growth, and we encourage an environment where all feedback, whether positive or negative, is respected. 6/. Timing of meetings. Because of our flexible and part-time working commitment, some of our team start a little later in the morning, hence training to start a little later. 7/. The 8 am start should mean the working day should finish when our phones close, at 5 pm. The 8 am start is meant to provide you with ample time to prepare for the day, read emails, refresh your priority list, and hold inter-department meetings before the office opens to our phones at 9 am. Our intention is for this system to allow our staff to start their days in a relaxed and pressure-free manner, ensuring that they can focus on their work without feeling overwhelmed. 8/. As to the threat of legal proceedings, as a lawyer, you will understand this is only a last resort notice to those that make allegations that they can’t support by evidence in court and which allegations are damaging to AvRillo and, therefore, to the livelihoods of over 100 staff who work with with.

Pros

Better pay but then again you’re working longer hours and less annual leave.

Cons

Things started off well during my interview and I was asked if I saw the value of working there. Everyone would have probably said yes because of wanting to land the job. After I started working the AVRillo, it started to get a bit unconventional to say the least. We were sent emails everyday stating how other firms were feeling the effect of the market and making redundancies and going bust (a bit hypocritical for a company that has a no gossip policy in the contract) and said that they have a great foothold on the market and in a strong position so won’t be making any redundancies. You have to ask yourself, if a company is in such a strong position, would they really be asking conveyancers to cold call estate agents to generate business and then fire staff because there clearly isn’t much work coming in. If you’re attracted by the salary, this is a trap. The negative reviews are 100% true and these are real life experiences. In every overly long and unnecessary meetings, we were reminded by the owners that they were a Top 100 firm and I haven’t heard anyone else use that statement as much. One of the positive reviews left on here uses the same statement so it just makes you wonder who left that review. Anyone who has an interview scheduled with this firm, I’d recommend that you take the negative reviews into account but look at what the positive review say and the type of language used so you can judge for yourself.

Pros

Salary is better than many other firms, but that comes at the expense of longer standard hours (8am-5pm) and in many cases, also in exchange for your mental wellbeing...

Cons

I genuinely felt like I was living within a modern real life version of George Orwell's 1984. It is a Big Brother type set-up, with 10 minute slot timesheets, excessive numbers of meetings on a daily basis, and an absurd "no gossip" clause in the Contract designed to allow them to fire people just for communicating to their colleagues in any remotely negative way about the company or Management, despite the fact that when a concern is raised directly to a member of Management (as they insist it must be), that person completely ignores or dismisses the concern. This leads to a culture of false positivity, snitching and cringeworthy praise of the managing partners on a regular basis. The partners admire themselves and their achievements an unhealthy amount and never tire of listing their various awards, accolades or qualifications. I was asked to leave an Employee review when I had been there less than 2 weeks and had not even finished their training yet - this was a red flag. The other negative reviews from recent weeks are spot on. Never have I rolled my eyes or almost felt sick with the cringe of it all quite so many times in a day. I chose to leave after just 4 weeks and I felt immediately relieved and indeed healthier as soon as I had done so. Might be a good option for some people, but the people this company suits are not the type of people I would be able to work alongside...
