Pros

ACDI/VOCA does interesting work and provides opportunities for junior level staff to travel.

Cons

The organization does not promote innovation or recognize junior level staff. They put high expectations on lower level staff but do not give them the appropriate pay or title. I am honestly surprised by the good reviews written by current/former employees as I do not know a single person that works here that truly enjoys it. Overall, the office environment is toxic and for the past year and a half employees have been leaving the company left and right. For a good period of time someone was resigning every week, some with no jobs lined up and just wanting out. Furthermore, I have had serious ethical issues with how projects are managed. I often times feel as though employees and senior management are not truly concerned for the poor and it shows in the projects. I would not recommend this company to any of my friends.

Good ideas, bad implementation

Pros

The work that ACDI/VOCA does is great. This company strives to better lives around the world by implementing agricultural projects in under-developed countries, which is largely the reason I work here.

Cons

The most toxic environment I have ever worked in. All employees seem miserable and over 10 people have resigned in the last 2 months. This company is going down fast. The management treats its entry and mid level employees terribly, with little to no room to grow within the company. ACDI/VOCA has a very catty and gossipy work environment, which I'm sure isn't unique to this company, however, it does make for a miserable work week. I dread going to work on Monday morning at this company.

Needs Change in Management Approach

Pros

There are still a lot of wonderful, hard-working, and experienced professionals working at ACDI/VOCA. It has a wealth of experience and used to have a good working culture. It has great benefits, a respect for work-life balance and a convenient and recently-renovated office space.

Cons

It is losing its experienced staff rapidly for a number of reasons but most have to do with its management approach and a negative work environment. Few people are putting in the extra effort because an individual's work is no longer recognized nor will it help them achieve their professional goals. People lack confidence in their managers and are frustrated with the way in which the restructuring has affected their job. This is happening at all levels and it trickles down. Unfortunately, if ACDI/VOCA does not win more bids, there will be even fewer opportunities and dissatisfaction will intensify. The CEO and top leadership is completely disconnected with the organization, oblivious to these concerns, and has taken a very inflexible approach that is not responsive and does not allow people to work at their highest capacity or incentive them.
