Great for students, not for staff!

Pros

Almost every staff member (teachers/admin, not district) are truly committed to helping students succeed. They are highly qualified and incredibly knowledgeable in their subject area. And most are passionate about teaching; truly putting the student first. The premise of the school allows students to get a head start on college courses, and sometimes a college degree, by the time they graduate high school which is great. The teacher salary is MUCH higher than most other schools in the state offer, but you are expected to put up with a lot in return for that pay.

Cons

Don't expect to work here for long! Either you will want to quit or you will be fired. This is by far one of the most unethical and unprofessional companies I have worked for, and it's a shame. From the outside it appears great but once you have worked here or spoken with former employees, you will see the real story. The teacher turnover would blow your mind! I recommend talking with people who have worked here BEFORE you accept a job offer because what admin. says and what really goes on are two different things. There are very few teachers who have been here more than a few years. Seems this school preys (for lack of a better word) on naive recent grads who are excited and optimistic about teaching, and woos them with a big paycheck, hoping they will accept being treated disrespectfully because they are thankful to have a job. No experienced self respecting teacher would put up with that, and that may be a cause of the high turnover. Admin. will screw you over any chance they get, so please be careful. If you respectfully voice your opinions or speak up about things you don't agree with (ie unethical/unfair practices) or rock the boat in any way, they will find a reason to let you go. It's very sad because the idea of the school is great, and it has a lot to offer students, but the way it is managed is a joke. I encourage you to read the school reviews and you will see parents address the issue of high teacher turnover on multiple occasions and wonder why good teachers are leaving. It's either because they are tired of being treated disrespectfully and unprofessionally or they want to stay but district does not like something about them. My advice: before you take the job, speak with former employees and ask district to provide staff turnover information, particularly for your position (and verify it!) so you can make a fair, informed decision before committing yourself.

Pros

Great students and pays well

Cons

Singles out employees, if you leave or contract is not renewed, you will not get any bonus money, even with legal help. Management will rake employees through the coals for doing something wrong, but then do that same thing at a school-wide presentation
