VimpelCom has made a beeline to become a leading mobile phone service provider in Russia, and what used to be the Soviet Union. Offering its services primarily under the Beeline brand, the company has about 90 million mobile subscribers across Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. The company also offers fixed-line and Internet services. VimpelCom provides service to about 25 million mobile, fixed-line, and Internet subscribers in Italy through Wind Telecomunicazioni. VimpelCom's key shareholders are Russia's Alfa Group (which controls more than 31% of VimpelCom's voting stock through its Altimo unit) and a subsidiary of Norway's Telenor (more than 31%).
