Scientific Learning uses computers to help teach language, reading, and reading comprehension skills in public and private schools in the US and about 45 countries. Its flagship Fast ForWord software offers products to build language skills (elementary students), literacy skills (for students in middle and high school), and reading skills (all levels). The software is used in computer labs and the classroom, in before and after school programs, and during summer school. About 90% of sales come from some 117,000 US schools; international sales are mostly to tutoring and learning centers, professionals working with language-impaired children, and ESL programs. The company also sells directly to parents.
