It was a dark and stormy night in the literary world before InkWell Management came along. The company is a literary agency that focuses on publishing, intellectual property licensing, and brand building. It was formed in 2004 when Arthur Pine Associates -- a boutique literary agency whose clients included novelists, authorities on health and psychology, journalists, biographers, and celebrities -- combined with two other New York literary firms, Carlisle & Company and Witherspoon Associates. Its best-known titles include Dr. Arthur Agatston's The South Beach Diet and Susan Orlean's The Orchid Thief. InkWell's roster has also included 50 Cent, Susan Cheever, Sophie Kinsella, Michael Medved, and Rebecca Wells.
