What you will be doing | Ngā whāinga matua
You’ll support high‑quality research by;
Preparing biological samples, acquiring high‑quality imaging data, and operating advanced light and electron microscopy platforms.
Developing, implementing, and refining reproducible image analysis workflows (e.g., segmentation, quantification, batch processing) to support efficient and scalable data extraction.
Working closely with senior scientists, data specialists, and facility users to ensure imaging and analysis approaches are fit‑for‑purpose across multiple research projects.
Contributing to research reporting through technical summaries, imaging outputs, and supporting material for internal and external stakeholders.
Supporting the safe and effective operation of the microscopy facility, including routine equipment care, adherence to biosafety and H&S requirements, and providing technical support and training to users.

To be successful in this role, the minimum qualifications required are:
A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., BSc) and experience in a research, shared facility, or technical laboratory environment.
Practical experience in biological sample preparation and handling, with strong attention to detail and an understanding of quality, reproducibility, and safety requirements.
Familiarity with light and/or electron microscopy, and a willingness to develop specialist expertise.
Experience developing reproducible image analysis workflows using tools such as FIJI/ImageJ, including workflow optimisation, batch processing, scripting, or automation.
The ability to translate biological or experimental questions into appropriate imaging and analysis approaches.
A collaborative mindset, flexibility to work across multiple projects, and a commitment to safe laboratory practices and a positive team culture.
