Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) — Job Description

Summary

Design, build, and operate reliable, scalable production systems; bridge software engineering and systems operations to ensure availability, performance, and efficient incident response.

Key responsibilities

• Service reliability: Define and measure SLOs/SLIs; implement monitoring, alerting, and error budgets; drive reliability improvements.
• Incident management: Lead incident response, perform root-cause analysis (RCA), produce postmortems with actionable follow-ups, and reduce MTTR.
• Automation &* tooling:* Automate repetitive operational tasks (deployments, rollbacks, runbooks), build tooling for observability, and develop self-healing systems.
• Capacity &* performance:* Forecast capacity, run load/stress tests, tune systems, and optimize resource utilization and cost.
• CI/CD &* deployment:* Design and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies (blue/green, canary), and release safety gates.
• Infrastructure &* platform:* Build and maintain scalable infrastructure (cloud/on-prem), IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation), orchestration (Kubernetes), and service mesh as needed.
• Security &* compliance:* Collaborate with security teams to implement secure defaults, secrets management, and compliance controls in production.
• Reliability-focused development: Partner with product and backend teams to design fault-tolerant architectures, perform chaos engineering, and review runbooks.
• Monitoring &* observability:* Implement metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards, alerting thresholds, and SLI dashboards (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Jaeger, etc.).
• On-call &* support:* Participate in on-call rotation, triage alerts, and provide L2/L3 support for escalations.
• Documentation &* knowledge sharing:* Maintain runbooks, playbooks, run deployments docs, and mentor engineers on reliability best practices.

Qualifications

• Experience: 3–7+ years in operations, SRE, platform, or DevOps roles; proven production reliability experience.
• Education: BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Technical skills:
• Strong Linux systems administration and networking knowledge.
• Cloud platforms: AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• IaC: Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
• Container orchestration: Kubernetes.
• CI/CD: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or equivalent.
• Monitoring/observability: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Opensearch, Jaeger/Zipkin.
• Scripting/automation: Python, Go, or Bash.
• Databases and caching: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis; understanding of distributed systems.
• Soft skills: Strong troubleshooting, incident communication, collaboration with dev teams, and ability to prioritize under pressure.
• Certifications (optional): CNCF, AWS/GCP professional certs, or similar useful but not required.

Performance metrics

• Service availability (uptime), error rates, and SLO compliance
• Mean time to detect (MTTD) and mean time to repair (MTTR)
• Change failure rate and deployment success rate
• Cost-efficiency and resource utilization
• Number and quality of postmortems and reliability improvements completed

Pay: $8,432.32 – $11,435.44 per month
