We are looking for a qualified Production Team Leader to join our team based in Papakura, Auckland.
This is a permanent full-time role, with 40 hours per week.
The team leader role is to lead and support assigned manufacturing lines to achieve daily production targets safely, efficiently, and within allocated resources. The role is accountable for team leadership, labour management, continuous improvement, and adherence to safety, food safety, quality, and operational standards.
What you’ll be responsible for:
Team & Shift Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop production teams across shifts to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.
- Set clear expectations, allocate labour effectively, and ensure strong communication across all shifts.
- Manage performance, training, engagement, attendance, and employee relations in line with company policies.
- Coordinate the Operators within the line structure including personnel planning, shift allocation, annual leave as delegated by the Line Lead
- Deal with unplanned absences which occur on the shift, obtaining cover for the shift to operate safely and to meet the production plan
Operational Execution
- Lead day-to-day line performance, ensuring production plans, OE/OEE, waste, and downtime targets are met.
- Ensure SOPs, standard work, and startup, shutdown, and changeover processes are followed.
- Investigate equipment and product issues, complete root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure accurate production, labour, and downtime data is recorded in required systems
Continuous Improvement (RTT / DMS)
- Lead and own the shift DDS process and ensure the appropriate daily triggers are reflected and required counter measures are in place
- Champion Lean and IWS principles, using performance metrics to drive waste reduction, efficiency, and cost improvement.
- Lead frontline problem-solving, continuous improvement initiatives, and standardisation across assigned lines.
- Coordinate the members of the team regarding idle time, CILs (Clean, Inspect and Lubricate) and change over
- Ensure the compliance with the production specifications within the shift.
- On the shop floor coaching and guidance to Operators on all RTT DMS’s (Run to Target Daily Management Systems), with a special focus on the CLs (Centerlines), CILs (Clean Inspect Lubricate), finding and fixing defects, RCO (Rapid Change Over) and FPQ (Finished Product Quality).
- Initiate and support urgent maintenance requests - accessing appropriate site/external resources as appropriate
Health, Safety, Food Safety & Quality
- Promote a strong Safety First and Quality First culture, ensuring compliance with HSE, GMP, HACCP, AIB and food safety standards.
- Ensure hazards and incidents are promptly addressed, investigated, and corrective actions implemented.
- Ensure operators are trained and competent to manage CCPs, QCPs, and quality requirements.
What you’ll bring to the role?
- Trade Certificate in Food Tech or similar (preferred) and/or Tertiary qualification with an Operations Management-related endorsement
- A passion for learning and applying new technologies to real-world challenges
- Innovative and creative mindset – you’re not afraid to challenge the status quo and throw new ideas into the mix
- Continuous improvement experience preferred (extra tick if this is within food manufacturing)
- Ability to use your initiative, problem solve and demonstrate an openness to change and try new things
- Strong interpersonal relationship building and collaborating skills, with ability to coach where required
- Analytical skills, demonstrating your ability to understand and prioritize losses
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
- Proven experience in successful and efficient problem solving
