Mō te tūranga mahi – about the role
As a Software Engineer in our Technology & Data team, you will help develop and integrate the specialised applications that keep the GCSB and NZSIS running smoothly.
Working hand‑in‑hand with stakeholders, you will turn customer ideas into clear design plans, pick the right commercial or partner tools, and weave them together so everything works seamlessly. If an off‑the‑shelf option isn’t a good fit, you will enjoy getting creative—building new features or components, sketching out testing and user‑acceptance steps, and keeping an eye on emerging tech that could make our work even better.
Beyond building new software, you will look after the health of our existing systems. That means writing easy‑to‑follow support guides, keeping documentation up to date for certification and accreditation, and tweaking code to fix issues and boost performance when needed. You will also be the go‑to person for practical advice, helping other teams understand how different pieces fit together and how to get the best out of the whole system.
Ko wai koe – about you
You are a motivated software engineer who sees every line of code as a valuable asset and thrives in a rapid‑pace, security‑first setting.
You will bring along your working experience with:
Backend Java development with Spring/Springboot
Frontend development technologies; e.g. Javascript/Typescript/ReactJS (including SSOM)
Containers and Kubernetes fundamentals
Database fundamentals in one or more of ElasticSearch, Redis, MariaDB, Postgres
Familiarity with dataflow management tools
Be comfortable working across the full SDLC and using CI/CD
Good understanding of applied DevSecOps
The expected appointing range for this position is: Level 1: $87,048 - $92,851 (G)
Level 2: $103,009 - $109,876 (H)
