What are 5 day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?
What projects / mahi (work) will the candidate be working on now and into the next year?
You’ll lead the next evolution of BNZ’s data movement capability—strengthening event streaming and integration platforms, improving self-service and adoption, and aligning to target-state architecture. A key focus will be modernisation and operational maturity (resilience, observability, security controls and cost optimisation) delivered through a prioritised platform roadmap.
What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?
You’ll lead a mission-critical platform that underpins how data moves across BNZ, with the mandate to set direction, influence standards and drive tangible improvements. Your impact will show up in better reliability, safer delivery through clear integration patterns, and a simpler, faster experience for engineering teams.
What is the most challenging thing about this opportunity?
Balancing speed, resilience, security and cost in a regulated environment—while aligning multiple stakeholders and driving operational maturity. You’ll need to make pragmatic trade-offs, lead through ambiguity, and keep service reliability front and centre.
What will success look like for the candidate in this role?
Success looks like a clear platform strategy being executed through a credible roadmap, with strong stakeholder feedback and measurable improvement in availability, resilience and operational risk. You’ll lift adoption through better standards and self-service, and run the platform with disciplined service management, governance and cost optimisation.

What specific tech skills would be beneficial?
Strong experience with enterprise integration and data movement platforms—particularly event streaming (e.g., Kafka), integration platforms/patterns, and file transfer services—plus a good understanding of cloud data services and integration approaches.
You’ll also need strong operational practices (incident/problem/change), reliability and observability, and the ability to partner with Architecture and Security on standards, controls and secure-by-design outcomes.
