First had an interview over the phone with standard questions which was then followed by a trial shift, again pretty standard.
However, upon completing the trial shift there were some very weird problems.
First I handed over my UK Passport and was questioned as to why the expiry date only said 28 and not 2028 in the expiry date which was a little weird for a hiring manager not being familiar with a passport.
After this, I reminded the manager that I needed to work my two weeks notice at my current job before transferring over. To which the manager stated they were aware that I had a two-week notice as I had put it on my application however they were under the impression I had already handed my notice in when I sent my Wagamama's application (who would do this?!) so I was then handed back my passport and told that I would have to resign first and then call the store so that my application could continue and my right to work documents were never checked despite having them on me.
So effectively, the hiring manager wanted me to quit my current job without being offered a contract first. This is highly unusual and a little shady and it's a real shame because I would have loved to start a career here but have now been put off by this unusual experience.
