I applied through other source. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at uTest (Cambridge, MA) in Jan 2014
Interview
I was contacted by one of the uTest top managers on LinkedIn.
We had a quick exchange of emails, when I mentioned that I would need an H1B and asked if they are not ready to sponsor let me know upfront. The manager said they are definitely committed to sponsor visa.
Then we had an initial interview on skype with questions about my background. At the beginning and the end of the interview I asked again (twice) that if they are not certain they can sponsor visa, we should not go any further, because I had more interview invitations that I could physically handle and I could not spend time interviewing with a company that was not ready to sponsor. Both time the answer was "yes, don't worry!".
Then I had another interview on skype, this time with a Java developer. It was purely technical, including some basic coding and algorithms, questions about big O etc.
After I passed that, they sent me a pretty hefty task, including storing and accessing data using various structures, implementing some text search, etc. It took half a day to accomplish and then the manager told me he would have to check with legal department about the visa.
I was waiting for 2 months, asking every 10-12 days where it stands, and the answer was "still checking". After about 2 months of such communication, the manager told me that "unfortunately, they could not sponsor visa at this time".
You can make your own conclusions about the professional level of the managers who work at uTest.
