      Devops Engineer Interview

      18 Nov 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at stakefish in Oct 2022

      Interview

At first, it was a recruiter screener, it asked a bit about past experiences, but then things got really weird when some computer science's trivia-like questions showed up. Answered that, the recruiter sent a coding challenge, a regular one. And yes, it does take more than 3 hours, so don't actually believe their message that says otherwise, so expect to work a bit on it. Then, afterwards, I had a conversation with the head of engineering. It was a screen-sharing session, where he asks some regular stuff regarding OS, SSH, processes, and there's a bit of a coding task involved. It all went well, until I've spoken with the CEO. As you can see, I applied to a DevOps engineering position, however, it seemed to me that he wanted to test out my knowledge on blockchain. The first thing he asked is that how many bitcoins are there in the environment, and wanted me to demonstrate it while screen-sharing. He mockingly asked me to download the Bitcoin official implementation repository, read up a function call, and determine the number of bitcoins in the world. Then, he told me to send the answer by e-mail. At first I didn't notice that he was basically mocking me because of my lack of knowledge of blockchain internals, but whatever. Then, here's something that really pissed me off, he asked what is the latency between where I was to where he was. I mean, was he mocking me? Because what this has to do with the day-to-day job anyway? I'd been a DevOps technical lead, and not even ONCE I had to calculate the latency between servers at the top of my head in my career. And then, he proceeded to ask me what's the speed of light??? I mean, at that moment, I lost it completely. The interview process was just fine, folks were nice, until I spoke with the CEO, then, I proceeded to withdraw my application, since I don't work with people that disrespect others. If to not make things worse, I'm autistic, and I do get flustered by unexpected situations. I want an apology, or an explanation for the CEO’s behavior. But until I have it, here's the takeaway, stay away from this toxic company.
