Contact the CFO or CEO and they will decide the whether the company needs you or not, if he said yes and give you a interview invitation that means this company really interest in you. The CSO will interviewing you and he is extremely nice, talking with him was a pleasure. You will probably get the answer on site.

I emailed the CEO and asked about any potential openings. He directed me to the senior scientist who was in charge of hiring interns. I interviewed and was accepted about a week after. I was then asked to come into the office to learn the layout of the company and talk about the job.
