Overview:
1st - Talent/HR contacts you for a phone screen
2nd - For me was a final round, consisted of 6 staff:
2 x from Tech Support - Manager and Associate
1 x Software Engineer
1 x Product Manager
1 x Solutions Architect
1 x Co-Founder/Chief Product Officer
First call, I got a chance to talk to the Client Success guy (who also does the recruiting). It was a nice chat, spoke lightly about my work experience, and wanted to gauge me more on personality and fit.
Second call was on zoom. During the times of COVID, I am assuming many interviews (and perhaps moving forward with many companies) will be on Zoom or similar.
The interview was 3.5 to 4 hours, some lasted 30 minutes, others lasted 45 minutes.
All I can say was an AMAZING 4-hour interview! Perhaps I am looking at it from the perspective of a business owner/Chief Executive Officer/Manager, but what a great team! They asked me very great questions, and it makes sense! You are dealing with, at this moment, a startup with around 50 staff. You almost have to be like the U.S. Army Special Forces when working at a startup. That means you have to know your stuff, so that when times are tough, you know how to work independently and diligently, as well as know how to be a great team player, collaborating and getting involved in other people's tasks. That's the best analogy I could give, coming off the head. They want to make sure that when stuff hits the fan, you can survive through all the challenges, and take control whenever your colleagues need that help or second eye on things.
I appreciated the time each staff gave to me. They were very nice people, and I would have enjoyed working with such a highly professional team. Though each interview was a great learning experience, I can say, my final interview of the day with the Co-Founder/C.P.O. was my most favorite one! I now have a great reference to keep for interview questions. If/whenever I have a my own startup, his questions would be on the top list of questions to ask a candidate. You really get to know about an individual's "WHY," what drives them, through questions like that.
Thank you for such a magnificent time, Mabl!
