I applied online. I interviewed at iD Tech Camps (Palo Alto, CA) in Mar 2025
Interview
The interviewer will spend the first 5 minutes describing the lead instructor's responsibilities, confirming your availability, work location, and whether you need housing, and any other information you included in the application. Follow up with technical and behavioral questions (mainly about how you would deal with specific situations).
Can you describe a time when you had to manage a challenging situation with a student and how you handled it? What activities would you do if there were an hour of no-tech/no-wifi in class?
If you had a class with a mix of skill levels (some beginners, some advanced), how would you keep both groups interested? What would you do if you had one student who was struggling significantly more than the other students in the class?
We structure our program to bring students outside for at least an hour. If you had to lead an outdoor activity, what would you do, with no constraints? If some of the students don’t want to participate in physical activity, what would you do?
If it’s 3 AM and one of your student comes to your room and says that their roommate has been disturbing their sleep (being loud, doesn’t go to sleep), what should you do?
You will typically start with interviewing as a regular instructor. If the RM deems you a good leader in the interview, you will get the chance to interview as a Lead Instructor. From there, the process is the same as a regular instructor, you will just be asked more management questions.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
You learn that some of your instructors have brough alcohol on campus. It is their night off, however, they are drinking it in the dorms in their own rooms. How would you respond?
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at iD Tech Camps (Fairfax, VA) in Apr 2025
Interview
Pretty standard, but on the longer side. Lots of various behaviors questions on teaching methods and dealing with youth. Technical questions too, but pretty standard knowledge based. I told them that I didn't know the answer to a question because transparently I hadn't coded in that language since High School, and they were very kind and thankful for my honestly.
