      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at bunq (Amsterdam) in Jan 2026

      Interview

The procedure is the same as on their career website, starting with an automated test and ending with an in-office assignment day. No CV or letters are involved in the application process, which decreases bias and can benefit some profiles. You are assessed only by the results of every step. Direct interactions are mostly smooth, especially with the engineers. When they tell you at any stage that you will receive a response or sth like that within a specific time, high chance they will exceed it by far without informing you, which can be confusing and stressful for some (happened more than one time). Although the emails are crafted in a way that looks cool and friendly, small details give a sense of them being automated, not accurate, and very cold. Also, an asked question in an email can be ignored. From the application process, I got a sense of a work environment that is a bit chaotic, fast-paced, and too demanding. It doesn't look like a preferred choice for someone who cares about work-life balance. Also, some situations made me question how the company views candidates/people.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at bunq (Amsterdam) in Nov 2025

      Interview

I completed all interview stages and reached the final GSDD Since I joined remotely, the process was frustrating. their remote setup kept failing, and I lost half a day just trying to connect. Had to wait till their lunch time to get little support when issues came up. Even when I got stuck, there wasn’t much support from their side. On top of that, It took a lot of extra time just to understand how things were structured. All the things happened in a very poor and unorganised way, which made the whole process unnecessarily difficult. After the final presentation, it seemed like they were happy with my work. Two days later, I received an email from the recruiter asking for my availability for a feedback call, which gave me some hope. However, after two more days, I got a phone call saying, “Unfortunately, you haven’t delivered what we expected.” It would have been better if they had sent detailed feedback over email rather than giving false hope through a call request. Overall, the process felt stressful and unfair to remote candidates. The recruiter was friendly, but the setup and evaluation method were disappointing. This is all for just 9 months short-term contract and what seems like poor work-life balance, I’m relieved I wasn’t selected.
