      Interview

The technical interviews were professional, and I was excited about the team and mission. The process broke down entirely during the final compensation stage due to a severe misalignment on leveling and total compensation. The Compensation/Leveling Experience: After progressing through all major technical and cultural rounds, I was informed that due to Zoox's 'rigid' internal structure, the maximum level I would be considered for was two levels below my current experience. The HR representative stated they could not move the base salary beyond the band. The final offer presented was non-competitive, offering a TC that was a financial deficit compared to my current compensation. The company refused guaranteed liquid stock {Amazon stocks}, making the package financially unattractive and risky. Cons: Rigid, Non-Competitive Leveling: Zoox's internal leveling structure does not align with industry standards, particularly for senior/staff-level hires. Expect to be down-leveled significantly. Poor Total Compensation (TC): They expect candidates to accept a substantial pay cut for the "privilege" of working there. The compensation relies too heavily on speculative equity (ZAR). Unprofessional HR Communication: The HR approach was dismissive, projecting an attitude that the company was "doing me a favor" and that candidates should accept lower pay due to the prestige of the mission. Advice to Management Align your compensation and leveling bands with industry standards for the Bay Area. Stop wasting senior candidates' time by pushing them through a full interview loop only to offer them down leveled offer below their experience cap. The mission alone is not a substitute for fair compensation.

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Zoox (Foster City, CA)

      Interview

The interview process from the recruiter to the on site went smoothly. The only hiccup was parking at the site was very tight, they did set aside a parking space for me but it was difficult to find.

      Question 1

They asked general logic questions like how many gas stations are in San Jose.

      Interview

Interview was very well organized. The recruiters and all the folks I interviewed with were awesome. I made it through initial rounds and on-site but then it seems someone at higher level made a call to pull in their favoured candidate. Oh well ..
