      Software Engineer Interview

      9 Sept 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Dallas, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Zix (Dallas, TX) in Sept 2019

      Interview

They ask one question about an employee one is salaried and one is hourly. The two interviewing were already predetermined in how they wanted you to answer so no room to expand or think out of the box

      Software Engineer Interview

      9 Sept 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Dallas, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Zix (Dallas, TX) in Sept 2015

      Interview

Basically the hiring manager (who does all the SW interviews) setup a OOP situation. He makes additional criteria as you progress through the interview. After about an hour we got to a point where he asked me to show how the code could determine 2 different employees. One with salary and the other with hourly. At first I setup an if condition statement which was correct, but not what he wanted. I then told him I could setup 2 different employees that were sub classes of an employee base class. He told me that since that was not my "natural" way of thinking and I leaned towards an if statement first, that I would not be a good fit there. He went on to describe how his interview process MIGHT be flawed (since he admitted to never reading my resume), but that the way he does gets him the talent he needs. Towards the end of the interview, he then told me that the recruiting firm that he is working with has sent 20 people in a row that he has not hired, but he was unable to understand how that was possible. Even if I was given an offer, I would have refused since he makes the first impression of the company. Why would anyone want to work in a situation where there a different mindset is looked down upon? If you do go through the interview process with them and you "pass" then make sure you ask for very high salary. You will get it since he is so picky. All in all the interview was intimidating and insulting.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

OOP related design problem. If you have two employees, one with salary and one with hourly and you have a test condition to determine if their wage is correct, how would you design your code?

      Software Engineer Interview

      10 Jun 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Dallas, TX
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Zix (Dallas, TX) in Jun 2015

      Interview

The interview process was completely whiteboard. Very complex OOP questions. I didn't make it far, so I'm not sure what would have happened after that. Be VERY prepared for this interview, they are definitely looking for people with in-depth experience. As somebody coming straight out of college, I didn't have a chance.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

A series of difficult OOP back-and-forth, ping pong questions.
