I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at ZipRecruiter (Santa Monica, CA) in Dec 2018
Interview
This was for an entry-level role on their 'Academy Team': a bootcamp of sorts for new grads or those very early in their career where after a few months of training get placed on an engineering team at Zip. I had some industry experience coming in.
Applied online. Recruiter reached out for a HR phone screen. Seemed like a good fit so I was sent a HackerRank which was unexpectedly very easy. Then a non-technical phone screen with the hiring manager of the bootcamp program. Then a scheduled five-hour on-site interview.
The on-site consisted of four one-hour 1:1 interviews that included some whiteboarding and remote coderpad problems that were fairly straightforward, and an off-site lunch. The day went about one hour over schedule and we kept getting kicked out of conference rooms mid-interview. Nobody seemed to care about not starting on time or getting interrupted during interviews. I left the office over six hours later feeling that the interview went well only to receive an automated rejection email a few days later.
I did not feel that my time or effort was really respected and, further, felt that the process was unnecessarily drawn out for an entry-level training role - can't imagine what they could be looking for here. Came to be a waste of time and effort unfortunately.
