The job interview involved an application review, initial screening, formal questioning, skill assessment, behavioral evaluation, employer-employee discussion, potential follow-ups, and final decision-making, determining my suitability for the role and company culture.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Ziglu (London, England) in Mar 2022
Interview
In March 2022 I interviewed for a Senior SRE Engineer role in Ziglu. Such an engineer would work as part of team of 4 (3 team members) and the role would be pretty heavy in GoLang and Kubernetes. It was clarified that GoLang proficiency was not a hard prerequisite and that the engineer could learn in the role. The process consisted of 3 rounds. The first one was a short high-level chat with the team lead. In the second one I was given an exercise brief and was asked to develop a simplistic kubernetes controller in my own time. This could be coded in either GoLang or Python, however trying Python would not be as easy since k8s controllers are mostly developed in GoLang. I was asked to spend no more than 4 hours, but I had to spend at least 6 hours to be able to share something working and documented. After having shared my work I was notified that I had passed onto their next and last round which would be a 90-min interview with all 3 SREs (Lead+ the other 2 team members). This round started with questions on the code I had shared and it was indeed obvious that there was lots of flexibility on GoLang coding. The rest of the interview consisted of a mixture of Kubernetes questions and SRE questions. I'd say that the Kubernetes questions were quite low-lever. For someone who'd want to interview with Ziglu I'd suggest you do at least the prep for CKAD or even CKA. I did not do great in the Kubernetes part and thus did not receive an offer. Overall, my experience was positive. The main negative point I'd raise was the coding exercise. Few companies ask for HW as part of the interview process nowadays and this one was, at least imo, more demanding than originally suggested.

Question 1
Q: How could you improve your controller using the Status field of the generated object? Q: What is the difference between a k8s deployment and a k8s replicaSet? Q: If you're receiving no failing notifications for the health of your system how do you know your entire notification system is not down?
